Hi Everyone.

Firstly i apologise if this has been covered elsewhere, i had a quick look but couldnt find something similar.

Went on a bit of a drive today to a near by town (bout 1 and 3/4 hours away) just for something to do. The weather was average, some small showers, lots of water on the road, lots of spray from other cars/trucks and about 25 degrees.

So we got into town and i parked the car down town for lunch. went to get back into it, opened it with the remote, put the key in the ignition, turned it and the car tried to start for a second (or even less, one rev of the starter motor im guessing) and all my dash lights turned on, the spedo display and the computer display all showed random charactors (not full letters/umbers even). The fuel gage didnt even rise to the proper fuel level. I removed the key and all the lights stayed on before slowly fading out. I tried starting it again and nothing happened at all (like a very flat battery - but ive only recently replaced that)

We popped the bonnet, and checked the battery. wiggled around the connections, went to open the boot (which wouldnt open even with the button in the glove box).

In the end we ended up removing the positive terminal and putting it back on (it was slightly loose). Tried the car again and it was fine. All the trip meters were still there as was the time (which i thought was weird seeings as the car seemed to have lost power).

Sorry bout the length, but any ideas? could the water have caused something?

These cars hate batteries that are on their way out. Most of us have had starting issues which have been resolved with a new battery. You need a 660cca from memory.

I replaced the battery only last month. So hopeing it isn't that. Might have to mention the symptoms to my local dealer

Poor battery connection, simple as that.

When you get home, take them both off and give them a good clean (lightly with steel wool). If they are noticeably crustified, once cleaned up, try a bit of petroleum jelly to prevent further corrosion.

Hey mate, yeah what everyone else has said: Poor Connection.

Just do the wire brush of terminals to eliminate corrosion and enhance the conduction. If you have a DMM (Digital Multi-meter) then just check the voltage across the battery terminals to ensure its 12-13V

Thanks Guys. Scared the living day lights outa me when it happened. Seems to be up and running again fine now. The stupid clips that hold it down dont want to grab onto the baseplate very well though. Going to have to have a good dig around under it to try find the forrect anchor point
