View Full Version : Boot hinges - easy to convert to gas struts?

We have 2 kids now, so the magna's boot (TF sedan) space is getting well used. I can't pack as much as I need to at times, the reason: those bloody hinges.

Is it a big/exxy/difficult job to remove them altogether and replace them with gas strut-type hinges that don't invade my boot space?

Particularly interested as our other car (bug-eye impreza) has the same issue, only that boot is tiny in comparison, and the hinges invade even more than those on the TF.

I would hazard a guess that if you fitted gas lifts to a Magna boot you be liable to throw it through the back window when you popped the boot :) Interesting thought though and I be interested to see what the brains trust has to say

have a look at the 380 setup, I beleive its hinges sit outside the boot hole with the gas struts. Might take some fancy hinge work to make sure the boot clears the car from the pivot point.
