Hey guys,
I've noticed in my TL when the petrol gauge gets to the halfway mark the engine gets pretty easily starved of fuel when taking a hard corner. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this?
Would a higher flowing fuel pump solve the issue? I don't really want a surge tank or anything as is it just a daily driver and not a track weapon.

bump?
If you run short of fuel during hard cornering, putting a higher volume fuel pump in will not help the situation. Your existing pump pickup must be getting exposed to air, so a higher volume pump isn't going to help any. The only way would be to have a surge system installed, or relocate your fuel pump pickup to somewhere where the surge will not expose it during cornering.

I've had this in my wagon, only to the point where I try and go near 3G and konks out at the pump, never had a problem when the needle is off the stopping pin

I have this happening with half a tank of fuel, doesn't seem normal...

Is it all accessible from the service cover under the rear seat?

Remove the pump by removing the lower section of the rear seat, unscrew the cover and then you can access the pump
May be a case where the intank filter has come off, check that and also check that your intank filter is also clean although a blockage there would tend to show up all the time
Remember, that a fuel pump can only push fuel, it can not lift the fuel into the pump thus why it needs to be in the fuel with free flow to the pump
I have also had a few where the pump was faulty and when not fully immersed the pump did starve. Although as above the pump can not lift the fuel, if the pump is faulty then the fuel that is there will struggle to get pumped. Hope this makes sense as is difficult to explain over a forum post

Have you ever removed the fuel pump prior to these problems? If the fuel pump is installed facing the wrong way then it wont be in the lowest possible position in the fuel tank, which can cause starvation. my magna Manuel points this out in the pump replacement section.

I've had this happen, but only when the needle is below empty and the light has been on for about 80-100km. Use to happen to me last year, fuel gauge didn't work due to the sender failing (of course it's fixed not and has been for about a year now) so I really didn't know how much i had in the tank, i also had no money to fill it up as I was at school and had no job so I just let it run out to the point to where this would happen to me haha. Couple of times, at big intersections with wide corners I would take them hard and the car would conk out, luckily servos have been nearby and it started again haha. But yeah that it quite strange for it to be doing that at 1/2 a tank. Try what mal and the others suggested man.
