View Full Version : radiator replaced, thermo fans not kicking in
so finished fitting the replacement radiator today and took the car for a test drive just around a small block
when i got back to my driveway i notcied a burning smell and popped the bonnet
1) new hoses not leaking
2) new clamps all tight
3) the 2 plugs for the thermo fans are clicked bank in
the only thing i can think off if even with the air con full up while going for the test drive the thermo fans didnt seem to be kicking in.....they were fine before i replaced the radator
any ideas?? suggestions would be welcome as i really dont have the cash handy for a few weeks to pay a shop to look into it and really need the car running for kids, work, shopping, pregnant missus munchie runs

Have you checked to see if they're getting any juice..?
Have you checked the relay..?
You filled your radiator correctly, right? No big bubbles or anything..

Could be a lot of things.
First off, have you checked the fuses?
Are there any OTHER connections you disconnected during the change, but failed to reconnect (ie coolant temp sensor)?
checked fuses, and i wrote everytrhing i removed downa nd took pics as it was my first time doing a radiator so all is plugged back on
no big bubbles, didnt know their was a wrong way of filling a radiator so good to look into that for future ref...i had some spare relays here and swapped them nothing differant..
tho randomly after a 2nd small drive to the shop ( i know i shouldnt but i needed a smoke) the passenger side one was workjing when i got home but the ds still wasnt

drivers side is for aircon, pass side for engine cooling.
Try running the car with aircon on and wait till the thermo opens watch for both fans to kick in.

yer first just turn on the air and see if both fans turn on - they should. This will eliminate a faulty fan.
Another issue is that temp sensor that runs info the ecu may the stuffed, first check that they are connected propertly (they are the above the thermostat) - highly unlikely
well if the passengr sid eis for the engine im just happy that one is working means i can drive the car lol
im just wondering if some water out of one the hoses got onto something electrical that may have just screwed it around a little
ty all for replies ill post back later when i go for a drive about it
so went for drive with the youngest late last night to try and get her to settle and thought i would check it out with a torch before i carried bub upstairs
ds fan still wasnt running, checked relays and what not this morning and they all seem good so i might just drive without aircon till i can get it looked out by someone fun fun
