Hey guys,

I'm removing my headlight globe on my KH Xi Verada as its blown. I've removed the washer bottle, and unscrewed the back of the headlight.
Now do I need to yank that rubber bit off? - Don't want to break it.

Cheers!

The big black round rubber seal? that should just pop off (and on again)

Okay! Thanks for that, was a bit paranoid about breaking something!

They do tend to get hard and brittle with age, but it it gets damaged in the removal process, no great harm done, it can be left off if you stuff it totally.
Wire clip holding the globe in can be annoying as well. lol
And the wire connector - I think you need to push the sides in to disconnect it.

Three things to annoy you! lol

PS. No, you are not retarded. Everyone finds this job less simple that it appears at first. lol

Washer bottle off.
Press sides of the black plastic shell housing on the wiring loom then pull it off the globe. If you look carefully there are plastic sprung sections that act as a ratchet locking mechanism.
Remove the black rubber sealing ring.
Find the free end of the bulbholder hold down spring.
Push in, move sideways until it comes clear of the hook part of the headlamp.
Move spring out of the way.
Remove the bulb from the intermediate holder.
Have a good look at the colour of each connector.
Both of the metal parts of the intermediate holder should be nice and shiny.
If not you will need to tighten up the female "lucar" one that looks tarnished.
Bulb back into the intermediate holder.
Holder and bulb back into the headlamp.
Refit spring - If you have to do the passenger side then you have my permission to use lots of bad language as it much more difficult.
Fit the rubber seal.
Refit the wiring loom connector to the intermediate holder.

Just put HID's in! Now I can't put the rubber back on because it won't fit with this set-up. Won't harm it if theres no rubber thing over the back of the light?

I guess its there to keep dirt and bugs out when the headlight cools down after having it on. Seeing it no longer fits you don't have much choice really. Maybe if you trim them a bit?

I shall cut them down now and I'll post back how I went! Thanks!

IGNORE what Madmax is stating..

The rubber seal is the to stop moisture getting into the headlight housing. The moisture erodes at the reflector and it will all end up peeling off. Mitsubishi didn't just put that part on for looks.

You will just have to figure out how to keep a seal.

with my HIDS I just put a cable tie holding the rubber to the wires leading out of the globe.. keeps a good airtight seal.

Yep, dirt bugs and - I forgot to mention - moisture. Shouldn't be too airtight though, as the space in the headlight heats up and cools down. If it was fully air tight the casing or lens might . . . .

Well I cut the rubber down the middle, then I put it around my globes (I had to cut it to get if off the wiring) and then I put it back how it was.

yeah that seal should be airtight, but there are other "vents" in the headlight design that should keep the air flowing....

Really? Wasn't aware of that, I have had TS and TJ headlights off the car and seen no vents, but (as usual) I could be wrong . . . . . . .

So I put everything back together... Now the bulb has a bit of play in it... How do I fix this? Will post a picture.

Yep each Parra has to hook looking rubber things on the back, they are airvents, they are designed so water cant get into the housing that easily

The problem now is that since you have hid globes in there, that plastic socket that held the globes in and itself was secured by the wire spring,is no longer there,so the wire isn't shaped enough to secure the globe.

What you need to do is to make a space out of rubber, foam, anything, the same thickness as the socket thingy that will fit and position this between the wire and the globe and you will find the globe will now sit securely.

You Sir, or Ma'am, are a genius! I cannot thank you enough! I've been sitting here in complete and utter disappointment, thinking that this isn't going to work! Cheers!

Would a bit of electric tape do?

In response to your PM, go to your local rubber store... you will need some 2.5mm rubber cut them to fit around your globes, then your done!
