Once fitted to a vehicle is there any easy way to determine the type of sports muffler that has been used?

e.g. How would one tell the difference between a muffler similar in construction to the Lukey Turbo (Tri-Flow or Reverse Flow design) versus one like a Lukey Ultra-Flo (straight through design) without being able to see the mufflers internal construction?

Internal pics can be found online here:

My Magna supposidly has a Sports muffler allready fitted by the dealer whom i purchased the car from (sounds great imo!), but I want to confirm exactly what design muffler it is before I go and spend money on what may only be a questionably better Lukey unit in my search of more power/performance...

Any thoughts, suggestions or ideas would be appreciated!

Thanks.

if your wondering about its straight thru-ness try sticking a long pole up it and see if it stops or goes all the way through

Thanks for the idea - Seriously i never thought of doing that (it makes sense though I guess), but now that you've brought it up i'm not too keen on the idea in case I damage something inside the muffler, any other ideas?

Use a bright torch and try to see inside, unless you have a dump pipe style muffler tip.

On my one you can clearlly see all the way through to the first bend before the muffler :)

Turbo charade is right, just use a straight piece of wood dowling or simular and slowly insert it through the muffler. If the dowl inserts longer than the length of the muffler its straight through.

You won't damage anything if you do it slowly and carefully.

The verdict is in, my muffler isn't straight through in design or so the dowell test revealed so i'm going to have to get that fixed...

... I'll take 1x Lukey AL4-5597 :D

How far did it go in?

just shy of the length of the muffler .. this would suggest a tri-flo / reverse-flo muffler correct?

Hmm... not sure. It's obviously not going any further due to pipe bending, is it? Any idea what make or model this muffler is? It's not a Lukey / Walker / Mitsu one is it?

I assume thats whats stopping it going in any further yes...

It's an aftermarket muffler of some description, i bought the car from a Nissan dealer here in Perth and they fitted the "sports" muffler before I picked up the vehicle (it didn't cost me anything extra).

I have no idea, the muffler is completely black in colour currently, the only label on it cannot be read, having said that the labell wasn't in the normal place for a Lukey muffler...
