Hi guys,
I just had a question about king lowered springs (not for me as my car is already lowered). They are pretty cheap atm and my mate wants to lower his car without paying the earth. However i was unsure to whether or not you can use the stock struts with them. So that is my question.
Thanks guys

look you could but they would not be set up to handle the lowered car and would get stuffed up.

best bet - lower it properly. Get some new struts at the same time.

Well he's not too keen on it atm as he wants to stop spending money on it for a while. And yeah, I know what you mean about the struts. When i swapped all the struts and springs from my project TJ, jeez my car handled so much better. I think maybe if you were dodgy and just used the stock struts, you probably wouldn't get that better handling either. I will tell him bout it and see what he thinks. So what sort of struts would you use for king lows (not super lows). Thanks

Given the age of Magnas, your struts would be nearing the end of their useful age (if they hadn't already) - given the labour costs, it doesn't really make sense to put new lowered springs in and leave the shocks.

KYB and Boge are two good mid-range options.

Konis are the bees knees... you can get them rebuilt.

Well I was gonna do it for him so there would be a low labour cost for him. Also his car has 298k so yeah they would most certainly be a the end of their life. Like I said, I suggested the idea to him, he wasn't too keen on the idea as of yet because of the money involved but he does want to do it at some stage. What cost do you guys reckon that a set of king lows and kyb or boge struts would set him back?

It's just as much labour to change the shocks as it is to change the springs, and ideally you'll need a wheel alignment afterwards each time. With 300k on the clock, it's a no-brainer to get the shocks replaced.

Have a look at the Mits-fix online store / eBay store, they sell Kings (as well as Dobinsons) at good prices.

Thanks mate. Yeah well when I swapped the springs and struts from my project TJ to my TL I had it booked in for a wheel alignment the next day and they said it was that far out it would have been crabbing down the road! So yeah I know that for sure. Also I'll take a look around the mits-fix ebay store and get some prices together for him.
