$600 to colour-code the bumpers and side strips? sounds expensive to me, there would be less than $200 in materials to do that to a magna.

It shouldnt cost more than $400 for what u need, maybe they are including labour, u should take off all the stuff u want painted them just take it there and say "PAINT THIS" and give them ur paint colour code... who u takin it to???? MARTY's :P

dunno, but i was hoping for $500 for my front, rear, a door + dent fix, and mouldings.

But i won't be able to do this till my mid semester break now

oh and thats for priming and painting and dent fix. I was going to provide the bars, both ready to be primed (i'll be fixing the front myself).

snagmag, i repair cars for resale, i'm in the bush and materials are dearer here than in Newcastle. what u want done is only plastic painting (easy prep), in Acrylic you would need an undercoat suitable for plastic and a topcoat. for 2 pack add clear as well. you would not need more than 2 litres of each paint to do that job. and like i said at most about $200 in materials. The quote u currently have allows for OVER 8 hours labour @ $50 per hr.
The side strips are better left on the car for painting and the bumpers are easier to paint off the car.
I currently have a white TR with a dinted rear quarter panel I expect to fix it for under $150 for panel repair and paint. but that's doing the labour myself.
seeing as u have a wagon and can fit the bumpers in the back. I would think u could find someone who would do it for around $350-400 if you were to take the car in with the bumpers off, and then u refit them. Ring around for quotes, they don't have to see your car to quote for what u want if u describe it accurately.

somewhat related question, but veering off the thread a 'lil bit,

I was told that when they repaint one of my doors after dent removal, that they'll need to also paint a bit of the adjacent door and the other side as well, in this case the rear left side panel, to match the colour.

I've got no problems with this, but when they do paint my front and rear bars, would they also need to paint a bit of the side/quarter panels and the tailgate (got a wagon as well) to achieve colour matching?

I was planning on providing the bars off the car if they don't need to do that, thus saving a bit of money on labour....

painting part of the adjacent panel makes it easier to blend the new paint into the old so the new paint isn't as obvious, getting a perfect colour match is hard as paint fades and varies from the code.
Another way is to paint one panel and then cut and polish the rest of the car to bring the paint back close to code, if your paintwork is good u may not need to blend or cut the paint at all.

i just droped in at another smash repair and they quoted me $1072 just to paint the front, rear bar and side strip things.

i think i might stay with the $600.
