Hey all,

I'm running a stock TE/F/H head unit and have an iPod plugged into the 3.5mm stereo "CD" input that is easily the best thing about the stock HU. Only problem is that when I charge the iPod using the cigarette lighter while the iPod is playing there appears a whining noise which increases in pitch with engine speed. I don't listen to doof-doof in the car so it's particularly annoying for me.

I know some of you guys will scream at me "EARTH! CHECK THE EARTH!!", so I've just tested piggy-backing another earth lead. While it does seem to get markedly better it's still not up to my exacting standards, so, at a loss as to how to check other things like current/voltage leakages, I'm looking for a better solution that doesn't involve my buying a new HU with iPod connectivity.

Anyone got any ideas? Perhaps a high-current or OFC piggy-back earth lead?

I noticed that whine too with the same setup. It's alternator whine from the car being amplified by the Ipod. You need a separate power feed with lots of filtering. Or charge the iPod while it is off in the car, or away from the car.
