bought a set of splits a fair while ago now,
and one of the actual speakers in the setup is starting to buzz, im presuming it is blown or is on its way
my question is...
ive got my old aftermarket 6" speakers, can i use one of these as a replacement for the blown speaker until i get around to getting new splits?
seems a bit silly, but it seems like it could work

Of the ohms match, Yeah, go for it. If they dont, it may send the amp channels a little crazy...

If you change the ohmage on a speaker connect to crossover, the crossover frequency will change as well. if they are coaxials, its probably not wise either, if the are single cones of the same Ohms, then yes, do it.
Normally ( not neceearily your case) - Car speakers, aftermarket ones should last a while, unless they get wet, are getting clipped or driven to distortion. this means a system may have an underlying problem, possibly poor tuning, water damage or the headunits amp driven to distortion. (tuning could apply if you use loudness over 50% volume) its designed to assist lower freqs at lower volumes.
Many user buy a much larger amp than the speakers require, just so they can set it very low gains ensuring the cleanest signal possible, adding extra life to their speakers and amps.
