View Full Version : Instrument cluster conversion
so my question is this...i have a TF magna exec and i want to put in a later model instrument cluster with the trip computer in the cluster itself, is it as simple as just changing over the cluster from say a TJ series 2, wiring harness and center display?

If using a series 2 it is plug and play with the dash still staying in the car
You will need to thread the new harness around the dash, is fiddly but certainly can be done with no worries, you just leave your old loom sitting there un plugged
There are a couple of wiring mods that need to be done to the new harness as well, one for the lower centre plug and one for the cruise if you have it.
I have listed on ebay clusters for KJII black out type as well as std magna clusters, we can do the wiring here so will be ready for you to thread the loom through and then plug in, you will need to join 2 wires which I can provide instructions for

If you are not after a Blackout cluster, i have a series 2 "Sports" and Executive clusters as well as a TL cluster which also fits.

None of the series 2 clusters are a direct fit, only the TH and series 1 TJ can be used but you still dont get trip comp
If the OP wants trip comp, and wants series 1 TJ then it is dash out time. If he is wanting series 2 onwards then can be done dash in
yeah, im just after a cluster with trip comp in it, i dont mind doing cluster out, replacing loom, and center display, i had thought about a blackout cluster, even though they look "sexy" im more after practical, i do a lot of long distance travelling, and i feel a trip comp will help me out a little. i dont have cruise :( and my car is a manual. so less mods needed there, if all i need is a TJ series 2 cluster, loom, and center display, and just swap over, then i can get all that here at the wreckers for $50, which im thinking is not a bad deal.
