Plenty of xforce products.. i have heard their magna extractors are not great and a bit buzzy since they are stainless.. but the varex mufflers are awesome if you want something adjustable.

yes people have discussed this before, Mal has made it clear on a few occasions that he does not rate the Xforce headers if i remember correctly.

A few members have or do run the varex variable exhaust. T_double_U, lathiat, munkeymanz and myself all either do or have in the past.

i had XForce headers at one stage... i replaced them after a few months of them on my car- they made my car sound way too deep and gave my car a flat spot down low. i did have an XForce Varex rear muffler at one stage (.. actually it's still in the garage...), only reason why i had one was so i can shut it up at times i wanted a quiet car- but then the motor (or the wiring, still haven't had a proper look at it) got stuffed and it's stuck constantly on loud.

i currently have a completely custom exhaust system consisting of Hurricane headers (pretty sure these are the Pacemaker designs, and not the RPW shorties), custom 4" high flow cat, two custom resonators and a 2.5" high flow rear muffler with twin 3" dump tip at the end.

my first setup was all standard except i replaced the middle muffler for a hot dog resonator and i had the Varex. sounded alright IMO, not too loud and no where near quiet (when it was open). then i added the XForce headers, and the car just sounded deep- had no tone.. after that i had the Hurricane headers and standard cat (with hot dog resonator)- probably should've left my exhaust alone after that but my standard cat was busted so then i replaced the cat for a high flow cat and replaced the hot dog for two large-ish resonators to get it a little quieter.. but it's not that much quieter. who knows, i might have a completely different system once the 6G75 is fitted :/

from what i hear HM Headers is your best bet for the AWD's, probably replace the middle muffler for a hot dog resonator and that's it- that'll make your car noticeably louder and should give it a decent note. i wouldn't replace the rear muffler off your car, since it's a VR-X it's already got a better flowing rear muffler than standard Magna's

oh and IMO, leave XForce to the Holden/Ford/Subaru crew- seems like the XForce gear better suits their cars than ours- this coming from personal experiences with XForce products

How quiet does the Varex muffler actually get?
I youtubed some videos and even on quiet there is a sound, one that I would describe as flatulence, for use of a better word

Really depends on the rest of your exhaust system. If the rest of your exhaust was tock, with the varex closed, it's as quiet as stock.

Your mile-age from there varies.

xforce headers, just like pacemaker and RPW headers all crack, I have been removing these brands and replacing them with the HM or repairing some of the Pacemakers and RPW as at least they have enough thickness in the material to try and weld them inlike the xforce

BTW< will move this thread back to third gen as shold not be in MitsFix

would replacing the mid section with a hot dog resonator be louder than a straight through centre pipe?

im also thinking of getting a xforce varex muffler, how much should i expect to pay for these?

No, the resonator is there to quieten the exhaust. Trust me, you'd want one still there otherwise your car would be unbearable to drive- especially in auto spec.

My price in the other exhaust thread of $400 was the muffler brand new alone. Your quotes in that thread sounds about right for it being supplied and fitted.

As for loudness and quietness, I noticed it was just as quiet as my brothers setup (which is virtually a Sports exhaust) when the valve was closed. It did sound a little farty and it also felt a little restricted than if the valve was open.

I got my 2 varexs for 350$ each from a member on here 'trotty' i dont think hes around much anymore. i think that might have been trade price. obviously i then had to have them welded in. and trent(lathiat) and i did the electrical installation ourselves.

it is what i suggested..... so yes, i think this is what you should do.

i can't tell you how much it'd cost for you to get it all supplied and fitted, mainly coz so many places will quote you completely different prices. my next suggestion: go out to multiple exhaust shops and ask around for prices

Hi MadMagna.

You said the XForce are thin when re-welding. What would you say is the reason the Pacemakers/RPW ones crack? Is it poor quality welding, or is the fit not quite right leading to stress, or just too thin?

In the 380 forums, several have reported the RPW 380 extractors feel "thin" and sound "tinny" compared to stock.

Back when I was riding bikes, I'd make my own expansion chambers for two strokes. There's a silence to it. But, noise is generated by thin walled pipes... to try reduce this buzz some stock chambers were double skinned. This probably explains the "tinny" or buzz from thinner walled headers.

I have HM Headers - love 'em! I've tried running without a center muffler and it's horrible - only sounded good when you were FLATOUT. Cruising around town or under load at low/mid revs its sounds like a can full of overweight retarded bees.

Lukey rear - it's good but I'm sure there are better alternatives.

Make sure you get it all fitted correctly. The zorst shop near where I work has done a great job with my system.
