Your shocks may be already worn, though maybe they are rebuildable.
You will lose handling from lowering it excessively and personally I think any time a car is to be lowered excessively it is best to use coilovers

i am probably only after around a 40mm drop...just wanted to know if the koni yellows that are currently on the car would accomodate the new springs

I'll have to stick my head under and check wtf the previous owner put in my vrx.. The right height is perfect! About 10-20mm of tyre tuck and it handles great.

Is it comfortable at such low levels?

If you want comfort leave it as it is. If you want it to look good lower it. You generally don't get both

To be honest, you have a Ralliart, you have Koni already

Drop some Dobinsons 30mm springs in, you will get a little harsher ride but will not be that bad especially given you are only on 17's so you still have some side wall flex

if you are really worried about comfort you really should have a Verada lol, the difference in ride from a Ralliart set up to a Dobinsons Set up, while there will be one, it would not be earth moving

Also, unless the Koni's have been changed, they are Koni Reds, still a great damper but still a long call from Koni Yellows a we supply these days
