My Ralliart has been garaged for the last month after my timing belt adjustment "incident". I got this fixed the other day and took the car out for the first drive in weeks. Waiting to turn left at a roundabout and a learner in front puts the car in reverse instead of first. Anyway, "bang" reverses straight into the front of me.
What do you think. Is this repairable or will it need replacement? I feel sorry for for the young couple who wearn't exactly been stupid like so many of the P platers around here. Their excess is likely to be huge.
In summary.
1. Crack in the fibreglass in one of the air vent openings.
2. Cracked where the numberplate screws in.
3. Paint is cracked on top of the bumper.
4. There is a slight dent in the front of the bumper just under the right hand sidfe of the number plate (as looking towards the front of the car).
5. The "beak" of the bonnet has some paint damage although I think this will buff out.
The other car has little damage but it is newer with the usual more flexible ABS plastic. I believe the Ralliart body kit was fibreglass?

Being nice to them can sometimes bite you in the rear..
Get a 2 quotes and hand it to them..
If they dont like it, let them know that you will then go through insurance. You pay the premium for a reason.. (Please tell me you're insured..)

Yes, fully insured for 18 years. No claims to date......
I think my excess will be a lot smaller than theirs!
Two quotes was my plan
Steve
If it wasnt your fault (which it isnt according to your story) then you wont pay an excess mate. Just give all details
To insurance company and let them deal with it, thats why we all pay so much damn money to them

You only ever need to talk to your own insurance company. They should deal with everything on your behalf. The only time they should ask for anything is for you to meet with an insurance assessor. Its critical that you get the other parties details at the scene of the accident.

Its actually a CRIMINAL OFFENCE to leave the scene of an incident without exchanging contact details.
Contact your insurance company.. If you're comprehensively insured, they will sort the repairs to your car out and follow things up with the other party.

Hopefully, I am wrong, but this sounds like the perfect opportunity for the other party to turn around and say that "he ran into me" if you push it too far

Damage style and damage patterns will show how the incident occured, any assessor will be able to pick that up in an instant.

I have all the details and have already been in contact with the owner of the car (was supervising the learner) and they have no issues with being at fault.
Will talk to my insurance today.

Dont contact the owner anymore though, keep it neutral

I'm with Real Insurance. Never been all that picky with insurance company choice after 18 years without a claim. However, they offered the best agreed value on the Ralliart ($14000) when some other companies were offering $7000 max. Premium is about $450.
Ive submitted the claim to Real to sort out. The bar will need to come off, should be repairable and then resprayed. Will probably still be over $500 I would think and heaven knows how much if the bar needs to be replaced.
Does anyone know what happens if the at-fault party decide not to use their insurance and pay for the repairs themselves? As i said earlier this is all new to me despite being nearly 40. I've had a very lucky run with cars......
His TPFT insurance will pick up the cost of repairs to yours if he doesnt have comprehensive. His car will be stuffed though and will have to pay out of his own pocket
A bit off topic, but helpful advice for club members:
Tips for any traffic incident: never admit any liability to anyone; use your mobile phone/app to discreetly record any conversation you have with the other party involved in the collision, including subsequent phone calls (this will assist you when they're initially apologetic for causing the crash but later change their story and try to blame you); use your mobile phone/digital camera to take some photos of the scene, damage and injures; look for any defects on the other car (bald tyres, excessive window tint, tinted tail lights, headlight mods, etc) which may help you get out or any criminal/civil proceedings they other party tries to bring on you (otherwise you may get stuck paying for all sorts of medical bills for the free-loaders who are now trying to set their whole family up on a pension!). It might be all "sorrys" and hand-shakes on the side of the road, but when it comes to paying excess, repairs or medical bills it's everyone for themselves. Cover yourself.

If the other party decide not to go through insurance.. They can settle the matter directly.
They are given 28 days to do so, if nothing happens there.. they receive demands from a recovery/mercantile agent aka debt collection agency.
Dont stress too much.. If you have any issues.. Post up and ask.. Some of the guys on here know their stuff.. Some others I beg to differ.. But no harm in asking!
When they take the bar off check the lower corners for stress cracks and spiderweb cracking. Cant hurt to get a little reinforcement behind there too if its evident.

Looks like more than $500 damage to me.
I had someone scratch my rear bumper on the 380, was $650 to take off, patch one small/deep scratch, colour match, and paint.
Yours looks more involved, with multiple repairs. I'd be guessing about $1000 at a reputable and good quality repair shop.

I submitted the incident last evening. Received a call from my insurance today. They will cover it as a not at fault claim so no excess, no loss of NCB and no increase in premium. They just have to get the other party to agree to nature of incident which I cant see would be a problem as they wont have to pay anything now.

I had the repair quoted today. Apparenty new bar as the type of plastic is very difficult to repair (something about being a white plastic made locally). So will head over $2000 by the time painting and labour is added.
The guy did make a comment to how good a condition the car is in and it would be a shame if it wasnt done properly.

Does anyone know if the insurance company chases the at fault party for costs or do they simply absorb it? The lady at Real implied they would absorb it.

If you have supplied the details of the other party involved, they will chase the other party for costs.

Had insurance claim accepted including full front bar replacement. Also get to keep old one which might be repairable if needed, when new bars are no longer available. All went really smoothy but helps to be an old fart with no previous claims.
Steve
In the last pic, what does that half round cutout do, if anything?

Car all fixed. They replaced the bumper. Only 4 left in spart parts now. $1800 just for the new bumper - ouch! Great job though. They cleaned and polished the entire car and also cleaned the interior. Dnt know how much it would have been though but suspect about $3000. Don't damage a Ralliart is all I can say!
They let me have the old bumper which could probably be repaired in the event I need it. Has a few cracks but im sure with some effort these could be patched up.

...Only 4 left in spart parts now...Anyone know what Mitsu or the insurance companies will do when these run out?
ie. after these 4 bumpers are gone and one of us inevitably damage the front bar again in an accident, what will happen?

The insurance company will tell you parts are no longer available. The repairer will attempt to obtain a second hand part. If no luck, the insurance company will pay out. Simple.

And then you have cash but no front bar. You could get an after market one, or try a fibreglass repair on your damaged bar. Or trawl the wreckers. Or buy a newer car.
So look after your bars! Especially if you have lowered suspension and low profile tyres. The TJ bar on my standard TJ is low to start with, and catches on curbs while reversing out of my driveway quite easily.

On the money Mad..
With a lot of repairers/assessors.. They try to help you out and try to point you in the right direction.
$1800 will pretty much get you a Custom Bar.. So there's always that option.
SuFz :ninja:
$1800 would probably get you a carbon fiber skin/frp backed ralliart bumper

There is a new Ralliart bumper going on Ebay, currently $400 on it.
Might be a good spare for all you Ralliart owners out there.
