Hey Guys,
I'm new to this forum so play nice please haha.
I've run into some strife with my newly purchased 98' magna manual wagon, the clutch has carked it after i was towing the other day!
I have gotten quotes around the $1400 mark to get it repaired...i know its a rare type clutch after doing a fair bit of homework but are there cheaper alternatives? someone suggested maybe a pajero clutch would work as it is the same engine etc?

Its not a rare clutch and many companys manufacture both oem replacement and heavy duty clutches for a magna. Clutch kit can be had from $300 up, depending on brand and quality. I would say that most of the cost in your quote was for labour. Shop around see if you can get a better price and ask what brand of clutch they will be using.

From experience with doing a second gen clutch, as a DIY exercise it's very time consuming. The third gen clutch kit can be expensive, and the labour cost can easily take it up to the price quoted. Shop around though, if you get a better quote ask if they have done one before, as there are some tricks to it.
Some kits on eBay for around $400 if you want to DIY.
As the guys have said, most of that quote will be for the labour. So, shop around and make sure you find out what brand of clutch they will be using and if they've done 3rd gen magna clutch changes in the past, most places have these days.

A decent kit will set you back around the $600 mark, assuming you have the 6cyl and not the 4cyl motor
Based on this, if you are being charged $800 labour, that is massive for a 5 hour job (and that is if taking it easy lol)
For around that price I do the 380 kits with a brand new 380 flywheel in Magna's

She certainly is the 3l V6 G672 engine. I do have the knowhow to do it myself, but not the hoist or the other bits and pieces to make things easier for myself sadly...that and i cant machine my flywheel either which will most certainly be fudged. What do you recommend i do? if i can pick up a kit off ebay for $450ish dollars?
