Hey guys,

Has anyone else had this problem -

I can drive my TF Magna for days and it will be fine, but every now and then (seems to be worse on cold mornings), i'm driving to work and the speedo drops down to zero, sometimes it says down for 10 seconds, sometimes 2 seconds, etc. Everything else works fine (RPM, Fuel Gauge, Temp Gauge). I can live with it for now but i'm worried that its just going to stop working altogether and I wont be able to tell how fast i'm going. Like I said, it only mainly does it on the way to work in the morning (between 8:20am and 9:30am) and will be fine all the way home.

Also at one stage, I was going 110km/h on the western freeway, it dropped down to zero, then went up to 80km/h then was jumping from 40km/h to 80km/h, then goes back to 110km/h.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be or has this happened to anyone?

Cheers and thanks for any help,
Ben

Details to my car is in my sig.

Something sounds loose or dirty. Check your speed and output shaft sensors on the gearbox. Clean them and try it.

Is it worse in wet or dry weather? Check for water leaks.

Check for a loose fuse maybe.

All this before taking the dash out and/or buying a replacement.

I don't think it matters if its wet or dry, it just does it if its cold outside.

This weekend ill check all the sensors on the transmission and look for the fuse and make sure its not loose or anything.

Likely a dead VSS, 1 bolt holding it in, sits on top of the diff. Swap it out and see if it fixes. Did for mine.
