View Full Version : 2002 KJ Verada XI
I'm having trouble with the factory fitted car alarm. Whether I lock the car with the key or the remote the alarm will go off occasionally, usually between half and two hours after locking the car. There is definitely no outside interference with the vehicle. Could it be the switch in the boot that needs adjusting? I don't particularly need the alarm. Is there a simple way of disabling it, such as pulling a fuse?

Try having a look at the bonnet switch first. Its located near your windscreen washer bottle just by your drivers head-light (its covered in black rubber), this is usually the culprit. I had the same problem with my KH Verada Xi. You can either fix it by adjusting the height of your bonnet (Turn those black height adjusters clock-wise. They're found near your head-lights either side) so it sits down a little bit. Or, if you prefer, nothing wrong with using a bit of electrical tape to permanently hold the switch down, that will prevent the alarm sounding if somebody does pop the bonnet, though.

Or just unplug the bonnet switch

I had the same problem with my 04 KL Verada, intermittently the car alarm would just go off for no reason.. it got worse over time and it ended up being the key-less remote was setting off the panic alarm (its activated by holding down the red button). The red/green remotes are a pain and usually brake alot, mine was dodged to work after the solder came off the contacts that held the battery holder to the remote. Try taking the battery out of the remote and see if the alarm goes off again, i took mine out two weeks ago and it hasn't gone off once since, had to buy a new remote though, but less trouble then being constantly woken up during the night haha
Thanks for the advice. I tied down the bonnet switch and have had no trouble since. Kleo.
