What exactly did you do as a persons idea of a full service can really differ greatly

Did you do anything with any of the belts, be they timing belt or alt/ps belts

Idler Tensioner..?
No Oil..?
Tools left in the engine bay..?

Could be a multitude of things, depending what was done etc.

Go back over everything you two did to the engine and check everything. Ask here if you are not sure.

it wasn't there before the service, @madmagna we changed all the spark plugs, changed the spark plug leads, replaced oil and oil filter, air filter and took off inlet manifold to change both rocker cover gaskets.
doesn't seem like there is a vac leak or anything just running rough and coughs when in gear and seems to be running quite rich, you can even smell a bit of unburnt fuel out of the exhaust.

oil is full and no tools have been left around.
at the moment it is missing the breather hose that goes from the rear rocker cover to the throttle body, have ordered one from mitsubishi.
do you think that would have that big of an impact?

yes that hose missing will make it run rough.

Ok, thanks for the peace of mind guys, i was hoping it would be that, didn't want to have to replace any expensive parts. ;D

While you are waiting for the proper hose, use some fuel line from you local parts supplier, or a piece of (clean) garden hose with a couple of clamps.

hey guys, got the pipe and put it on today, made no difference. it idles quite badly in gear and neutral, we have checked if there are any vac leaks by spraying carby cleaner around the gaskets and the cars revs didn't change, it is also idling quite low.

after the inlet manifold comes off is there some sort of reset procedure with the computer that we don't know about?

any suggestions would be appreciated.

Plugs gapped correctly..?

Are you down on power at all..?

thanks for the replies, power is down and it seems to miss a bit when you first apply throttle.

as for spark plug gap no i think we forgot to check what are the gaps supposed to be so we can check them.

Check the plugs leads are on the correct plugs and not swapped.

Hey again, after replacing the breather hose it didn't change anything, so we took it to a mechanic and they said it was running on 5 cylinders, it makes sense since it seemed quite low on power when i flawed it. and that could explain the unburnt fuel smell, we will also gap the spark plugs correctly when we work on it, But what are your opinions? if you think it could be something else, Or agree with what the mechanic said, let me know, thanks everyone involved in this thread.

If it's down a cylinder, and you know which cylinder, the first thing you need to do is replace that sparkplug if it appears faulty and also check and/or replace the lead to that plug. It could also run on 5 cylinders if the pug leads were not on the correct plugs as per my previous post. These checks are easy and cheap to do and in my opinion the ones to check before doing compression checks etc..

Check that you have pushed the spark plug leads fully into their sockets on the distributor cap. I know that it sounds bleedin obvious, but it is easy to stuff up here, and is an awkward place to get to.

Check your fuel injector harness where it goes arounod on the pass side of the manifold, have seen ppl pinch it there, will cause the issue you have.
