Hey guys, first post, I searched this and found one thread but it didn't really mention the models or years.

Basically my wife has a VX commodore and the rubber is shit (cheap) they came with the car, she bought it recently, and with all this rain she ended up aquaplaining into a give way sign... anywho, she has lost confidence in her car, and on my 1999 TH magna executive, I have the stock standard steel rims with fairly good rubber (not cheap :D )

Can I do a switcheroo on these and put her in my stock standard wheels and me on her rims?

I am only really doing this out of cheapness as there is no way I could afford a new set of tyres for her right now.

if not I guess I am buying some new steel rims and some tyres for her... she would also rather the comfortable ride than the 18" rock hard wheels.

try ford same stud pattern for the magna he means, post AU (I believe) has the same stud pattern, same offset. Doesn't solve your problem of new tyres for the VX though. Got any sort of budget for new tyres? Can often score a wheel and tyre combo second hand for $500 or so, only problem, if off a Commodore, the rears are usually toast :)

Unless those Commodore wheels are multi stud ???? then it's only a question of the offsets.

Thanks guys, and no the mags are cheapies (XID brand?) I guess she will have to wait and actually pay attention to me when I tell her to slow the ftruck down :P

I have the new home owners grant on the incoming right now, so I can syphon some of that, pick up some steel rims from the wreckers or something and whack some nicer rubber on them.

Even so, that doesn't get the wheels off his Magna onto the Commodore. Remember the objective is to swap the wheels from one car to the other in both directions, not just get one set on the other car.

The pre-AU models had around a 0 offset so they won't fit. AU and onwards use around a 35-38 offset which suits Magnas.

are the tyres the same size? the stud pattern is different but if the tyres are the same size a tire place should be able to $wap them.
