View Full Version : Flickering internal LED - How do you stop it?

I have led's installed in the C pillars, footwells, roof light, front door courtesy and puddle lights.
All work as they should except the drivers door courtesy and puddle lights, which flicker constantly when the door is closed (or if the door button is depressed by hand).
Not just a dim light, but a medium strength constant flicker.
This does not occur when the normal bulb is fitted.

Visited Jaycar yesterday and the young chap there suggested a 1 ohm resistor on the positive wire. Tried it tonight - no change.
I even tried swapping the door switches from left to right - no change.

Has any one out there had this issue?
Is a resistor the right way to rectify this?
Do I need a resistor with more than 1 ohm's resistance?

Any help would be appreciated.

The resistor is the right way of fixing it for LED's seeing as they draw way less power than standard bulbs, Im just unsure of the value off the top of my head. 3 or 5v LEDs?

LED resistor Calc. (http://ledz.com/?p=zz.led.resistor.calculator)

Thanks Flux.
That calculator is a start.
Supply voltage = 12.
Voltage drop and desired milliamps I will need to chase up.

Just put leds in my courtesy lights and I'm getting this flicker too in the drivers door, what exactly do I need to stop it? These are the leds I'm using (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4pcs-T10-W5W-501-Xenon-SMD-LED-Side-Light-Car-Side-Light-Bulb-Lamp-12V-White-AU-/170753339399?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27c1b13007)

Any led you put in the courtesy lights will flicker. mine flickered with the door shut 24/7. Didn't bother with the resistor mod but I may do it later on. in the mean time blue tinted incandescants are doing a reasonable job as courtesy lights.
