Hi.
I have a tj with 140000 on the clock and all of a sudden it's started blowing smoke which smells of fuel and is not running on all cyl. Have changed plugs and leads. No water in oil or bubbles in water. Thought it might be a stuck injector so ran it on lpg with fuel pump disconnected but same result. Last thing I was going to check was vacuum modulator on triptonic-if it has one!! Have spent quite a bit of time looking but to no avail. Does it have one and where is it? Would be much appreciated.
Thanks

It's equally as bad on both fuels?
Is the LPG an injection system or mixer?

Sounding like an injector is not closing properly, the rough running, smoke and fuel smell are sort of a good give away
How long exactly did you have the fuel pump disconnected

Exactly what I was thinking. lol
Has happened to me before, exactly as the OP describes it. Was a poor wiring job in my LPG setup, causing one injector to remain open. Ran reasonable on LPG, but absolutely terrible on petrol.

The Lpg is a mixer system. It runs the same on fuel or gas. I disconnected fuel pump and ran it for about 2 mins-maybe should try longer? Was smoking all over the place!

Had the pump disconnected for about 2 mins-nothing changed. Might try it for it longer. Theres no clunks or bangs though the 2 central cyls are a little down on compression.

Hi there----yes it was faulty injector! After disconnecting fuel pump i wasn't running the car long enough for smoke to disappear while running on lpg. Took about 5 mins and filled the neighbourhood with smoke then took her for a drive to be sure. Swapped them for some others I had and now she is good. Thanks for your help.

Glad you found and fixed the problem!
For your information - a bit late, I know:
"Last thing I was going to check was vacuum modulator on triptonic-if it has one!! "
Delete this information from your memory banks! If I remember correctly, it's part of the kick down system. Older Fords and Holdens were able to suck transmission fluid through this into the engine if it failed, causing lots of smoke, but the Mitsu does things differently. lol
