3.8+supercharger=requested torque and extra awesomeness to go with.

But seriously why try a 3.8? It's got the torque and some pajeros come factory with that motor. Just putting it out there.

Which paj you got?
The biggest issue I found with my 2nd gen was it didn't have enough anything anywhere in the rev range!
If it had more torque, I would forgive the flat top end. If it revved out harder I could forgive the lack of bottom end.

Grab the cheapo 3.5 and jam that in there. Get a decent set of headers and a nice exhaust, run a snorkel for some nice restriction free cold air and you will find it fairly good.
If your auto, you can do without quite so much torque as the gearing and the converter give you basically all the torque your going to need.

If your running with wound up bars and patrol springs with 35" tiers, your going to run into torque issues because of the gearing change.
If you still want more power, I suggest getting hotter cams for the 3.5 and running lower diff gears. This will let you rev her harder. But if your running out of torque in L1 then your going to be having bigger issues, LOL

EDIT.
Holy thread necromancy batman!
Totally didn't look at the date, just turned this up during a search!
