Hi kids

I've recently purchased a basic TE as a general runabout - it is a surprisingly good car. One thing it does definitely need is better stereo gear, it just had standard speakers and an older style CD head unit. I fitted a new CD head unit on the weekend which has made a huge improvement, but the standard speakers are pretty ordinary.

I've organised some 6.5" splits and 6x9s for the rear. If anyone has any fitment tips for these speakers, they would be appreciated. Assuming they arrive tomorrow I will be fitting them on the weekend.

Looking at the standard setups, these should fit fairly well but if there are any tricks/tips/traps then I'd be interested to hear.

Also re: door trims, are they just a lever-off job to remove?

Thanks

The rear ones are obviously easy to replace...
So are the front ones really...
The door trims have two or three screws around the place that you need to take off before levering it off (plastic clips everwhere!)... ones behind the door handle (inside) and theres one or two in the little pocket along the line of the door handle.

the rear speakers come out with a few screws holding them in and the covers have a few nuts that will come off from under the shelf in the boot.

you'll want to use one the small angled screws pieces to get the rear speakers out due to the way the windows sits

for the splits i used my dash mounted ones or you could try and get some of the tweeter pods that will sit in the sail panels off Madmagna if he has any or a wreckers

Ok, good start.

So I take this the sizing I have will not pose a problem at all?

The round things in the dash I assume are for tweeter mounting in up-spec models. How hard are they to access / remove?

they should just pop out with a flathead.
iirc the wires for it just drop straight down to hook it up to the x-over

with my splits, when i upgraded, i simply took the stock ones out, and screwed the new ones into that. keeping it stealthy

Some models also had tweeter pods at the base of the A pillar. You can fit 25mm tweeters in there without drama. They're about $18 each from Mitsu spare parts. It's where I have my tweeters mounted.

You may need to make new holes for the screws to hold the 6.5" woofers in place, but the speaker mount is only plastic, so it's a non-issue....
