I was searching auto filters & came across a mention by Madmagna that he preferred the Derale in-line filter over another brand.
Is the fittment of these recommended - I'm surprised I havn't seen them mentioned before if they help avoid auto transmission problems.
Where can they be bought?
Are they much of a challenge to fit for someone of moderate ability?
Are they reliable (no leaks)?

I haven't priced these in a while, but from Supercheap they're about $170, plus freight. That was about ten months ago though, and pretty sure they weren't Derale either? Davies Craig maybe?

1) im guessing some people will say its 100 worth it, others will say their not worth fitting .. personally i have considered it so would like to see some results on what people think
2)they can be bought from mitsfix contact details for mal are in the mitsfix section of the forums
3) a quick look around google tells me most people with a very basic understanding of how to read insructions fit these without to much issue so you should be fine
4) if fitted properly, and the item isnt fault then from what i have read yes they are fine
@ skapper supercheap use some ultra cheap sounding brand called transgold for the auto filters and they are about 140.00
so dearer than mals site and a dodgier product.... i know what i would buy

As an example of how these work
A customer of mine, TF Wagon, cargo section set up with large deep cycle battery and fridge, inverter, towing a 4 x 4 camper trailer fully loaded did a 26000k trip around aust including a lot of work in the hot desserts. Car also is on Gas so there is a gas tank in the back as well as his family of 2 adults and 3 kids, a lot of weight for that car to move
When he returned from his trip, the auto fluid was as red as the day it was flushed just before the trip. THis car has a TJ Trans with no ext filter so we fitted the Derale filter kit and trans cooler.
I think just this one example speaks louder than words

These I think are a MUST on the auto's without an external filter. But that could just be paranoid me after blowing a trans (no external filter version).
@95ts - SCA uses Transgold filters yes, but their "oil filter relocation kits" are by Davie Craig, or SPECO? I priced one for a customer when I worked there - $168 and change, plus freight, to suit a Toyota. Had similar components. Cant vouch for quality as I wasn't there when the kit arrived.
IMHO anything you can do to improve the longevity/reliability of the transmission is worth it. I have the trans with an external filter now, so I shouldn't need this type of kit. I do however run the biggest trans-cooler available from SCA. So far so good.
Does this mean that if you fit a Derale filter kit that the dreaded "wave spring" mode of failure will not occur?

I'd have six fitted, and have three in the boot, if this was the case.
Sadly "no" it wont save you. It will go a long way to improving reliability overall though.
