A couple of weeks ago I asked whether anyone used semi-synthetic oil instead of full synthetic because they felt that it was better for their engine. No-one made that case, so I assumed that the reason was price.

Perhaps more members will go full synthetic now that Penrite have changed their HPR5 & HPR10 oils to full synthetic - depending on the price increase.

The HPR5 (5W-40) has gone from 15.5 to 15.0 cSt @ 100 degrees C, so marginally thinner but still in the upper half of the range for a 40 grade.
The HPR10 (10W-50) remains 19.0 cSt, which is in the middle of the range.

Meanwhile the Sin 5 (5W-60) has been replaced by "10 Tenths Premium 5" & has come down from 24.7 (in the upper half of the 60 grade range) to 23.8 (slightly below the mid point).
10 Tenths Premium 0 (0W-50) is 18.7 cSt, which is below the mid point of the range for a 50 grade.

This has been the case for some time now

Most places, including my workshop are still using the semi synth until stock runs ou (can just throw out 200l of oil lol)

Price for the HPR10 has gone up only by about 4 bucks from memory per litre
