hi,
I have a Verada Xi 3.5 from Dec 98, and from time i drove it from melbourne to adelaide, anti lock icon is on all the time, ABS does not work, and cruise control turns itself off after some time.

Any solution to that???

I would get the brakes inspected by a mechanic. Could be something as simple as a "dirty" sensor (happened on my Pulsar years ago). Or it could be a electrical problem, say a fault relay or fuse, either way you don't want to mess with a warning light like that.

+1 Only recently a member here on AMC crashed and wrote off their car because they had an abs issue they ignored.

That being said - if you're still adament on fixing in yourself or isolating the problem then grab the service manual for the 3rd gen magna's - there is a flowchart that shows the different steps that should be taken to isolate the problem. The site that used to host these manuals has gone down so you may want to contact one on your state rep's to see if someone has a copy of it and can put it on a cd for you. I've got a copy of the manual but its too big to upload to most free servers and I would not be granted enough bandwidth either. Alternatively - buy a Haynes/Max Ellery etc book and use that instead. These books are usually created by those who've actually taken apart the car and they do not use as much jargon and have easier to read/see instructions/pictures.

i have a friend who was the marketing director at Mitsubishi in adelaide (when it still was open), he gave me the cd few weeks ago. Gonna check it out, and will keep this updated.

thanks for answers and advices.

.

Do you have the link to that? - I'd like to know exactly what happened. Thanks.

IF the member in question wishes to post then all and good, if not then his name should not be posted up here....

Lets face it, many older Magna's dont have ABS, when yours is not working you have to drive to that condition

THe problem in this case may be a sensor or the actual modulator, I have done several of these in recent times where the modulator is simply not working, plug in the MUTII and you get no communication or there are faulty solonoids generally caused be a lack of maintenance with brake fluid etc.

Get a code readout and this should tell you pretty fast what the issue actually is

Is your handbrake light working? Usually it will be illuminated at the same time. I've also encountered the ABS module going. I sent his car off to my mates workshop to get the code read then donated mine to Zahrim as his car had the same fault (was going to do an abs conversion but ran out of motivation).
