Hi, I have 207k on my clock now, and i plan to drive to holidays for 2k km one way (total 4k km).
I plan to change the belt and the other staff before i go. I recieved a quote for 1200$, that seems way to much.

Does someone knows a good mechanic that can change it and wont be charging gold???
In SA, any side as i live 5km from the city

What stuff are you replacing? If its all up with a fair few other parts than the timing belt that actually isnt a horrible price.

"Way too much" depends on your perspective. Depends too on what you are going to get done.

If you shop around for the best price on parts it will still cost you at least $400 to do it properly so as a DIY job it's still not cheap, and if the labour needs to be paid for, is quite a few hours at whatever mechanics charge these days. $1,200 sounds ok, but it depends on what items are replaced.

A lot of Magnas hit the second hand market cheap at 200,000 km as the owner get a shock at the cost of this service.

agree 1200 sounds about right including labour

For a FULL 200k service $1200 is on the money, and is in fact cheaper than most places

If you are only getting a belt done, then that is too much

Lol that is way to expensive unless it as Mitsubishi, previous owner paid 650 for a timing belt kit and WATER PUMP (tentioners were fine).

I paid about $1800 for my 200k service, was quite a while ago now but i got the timing belt done (with tensioner at 200K) water pump, oil/filter, plugs, rocker cover gaskets, distributor cap, rotor button, coolant, fuel filter, adjust handbrake, rotate tyres, and fan belts etc...

Everyone said i got ripped, i at the time i thought i did to but looking back now it doesn't seem too bad, close to 250k now and she's been good to me.
Driving to Gold Coast and back in the new year, hope she makes it, might have it looked over before this trip...
