I'm thinking you're chasing more of a carpet dye than anything. I did a quick Google on it.. its possible, ad people are doing it, but I didn't search long enough to find any products to do the job.

Yes vinyl dye works on carpet. Well the ones I've used do. Can't remember the brands however.

I think it can rub off if its in an area that gets worn, e.g. seats, floor carpet, floor mats. Door carpets/parcel shelf are good. If you do dye the floor, throw some black mats over it to try and stop it being worn off. Since you (should) take out the carpet to dye it anyway, it might be easier to keep an eye out for black carpet and just swap them, black carpets go for about $100

I would be inclined to replace the carpet with the black carpet that came standard on the sports models. Easier, looks better, and you won't have to worry about the dye fading or anything like that.

A color change is a little more difficult than just re dying a carpet. You can try RIT dyes. Not expensive but the result is not equal to what you think it will be.

Approximately an hours work.. If that.. once you've got the replacement carpet of course!

Piece of cake!
