I've selected a few major brands and their main engine oils/weights. I know there'll be a few missing, I'm hoping the "Other..." types will fill in the blanks.

Too many decisions! Ill just stay safe and use olive oil like you all should :)
Penrite HPR10 here, lifters are starting to get noisey though. Will pull them out in the next couple days for a bath.

mobil1 5w50 for the last 70,000km of 140000km (changed every 15,000km/12 months.... and yes im doing highway miles) and couldn't be happier, oil remains clean on the dipstick every oil change, and i can still see the shiney metal inside the engine (of course i should add that im an LPG convert)

Amazing how clean an engine stays on Mobil 1. No carbon build up, no sign of varnish. If I was running a taxi at 100,000 km per year I'd definitely use that, with oil changes every 3 months. As it is, at 5,000 km per year on 3 different cars, I use the cheapest 15-W40 available at the time with annual oil changes. Usually Valvoline or whatever. lol
was using castol magnetic since i bought the car, used it before on my commodore with no problems, but for some reason in the magna castrol magnetic just didnt seem to last beyond 8000ks. it lost velosity, went black. changed to hpr10 and its good, been 1200ks+ since the oil change and its still holding up pretty good

Where's the option for recycled 5L oil bottle from Kmart for $3?

Gulf western, Kmart oil? I can't tell, but I think someone's taking the piss? :D
If the poll options allowed for more than thirty I'd have added more. :P

Nah, we run gulf western in our third gen cos its the cheapest and at the rate it loses it we aren't going to spend a heap of money on every bottle.

An observation from the 63 votes to date (of which 54 are for a specified grade).
Of the 31 using either Penrite or Mobil1, 28 are using xW-50 or higher.
But of the 23 using one of the other 5 brands, all are xW-40 or lower (I've included Mitsubishi oil here).

castrol edge 5-30 always, great economy, freeflowing suits my engine (fast flow for mivec engagement) and it comes out dark after 7500kms meaning its actually holding contaiminants in suspension, something a good oil should do.
Oh and the bmw m3 and m series diesels we drove at our work track day ran edge as well, guy said its all they use, and those cars were driven hard!

used nulon 10-40 fully synthetic from 80,000 until 285,000 in the te, with change intervals of every 10-15k. never needed to top it up between changes. and to this day, the car sat for 1 month without being turned over, and when it started, there wasnt even one little click of rattle from the lifters, and there has never been any blue smoke coming out the muffler. i used penrite once in the 3 years i had the magna, and i wasnt dissapointed, but couldnt see the point in spending the extra cash.
edit: oh yeah, i used to absolutely flog the crap out of that car. like 25 1/4 mile runs per night, 3 weekends in a row lol never missed a beat.
i ****en miss that car.......

12/02 TJ2 3.5 auto (226k). shell helix ultra 5w-40. have used a castrol slx professional 5w-40 synthetic over the last 30k as i had 4 bottles in the shed. i change the oil and filter every 7.5k and it only burns maybe 100ml in that time. will be interesting to see how the shellhelix ultra goes.
2/97 TF 2.4 auto (336k). whatever is on sale but usually a 15w-40 or 20w-50 valvoline. rear main leaks about 0.5L litre every 5k but from what i can tell it does not actually burn any. definately the original motor too.

Wow, I'm still the only one who voted Genuine Mitsu oil. My Mitsu dealer has a permanent 5L oil + filter package for $30, so can't go wrong & I've always had a great run with it, my old TF still uses it and it has 303,000km on it now still with no dramas at all, just uses a small amount of oil but it's had a long history of 'spirited driving'.

12 months ago genuine mitsubishi oil was made by castrol. Probably still is now. the petrol oil was a 15w-50 viscosity and was about $20 at staff price which was cheap for 5L of quality oil.

If I got it that cheap I would use it lol.
