If you're talking about the shifter "shift knob" then I'm yet to see a direct fit replacement. Would be nice I guess, but with so many shifter types it would be near impossible to make something universal.

In principal it would be easy to make the shifter knob and button provided the right tools and time. Depend what you were chasing of course. Something like a pistol grip shifter "dodge style" would be harder to do... but oh so cool.

Take a look at a manual shift knob you like; see if it can be modded to suit. That's how I'd start before measure everything up and scratching together a set of drawings then bribe somebody who has access to CNC machining.

Only two types as i know are evil black plastic or nardi wood. If you feeling up to it you could paint the shifter with VHT plastic dye, red and silver. For example the button as red and body as silver :D

You could try what my mate did, however get a spare shifter assy first as this modification may be frowned upon by the authorities.

Step 1. Remove cupholder section
Step 2. Remove shifter knob/button
Step 3. Cut out ratchet support in shifter assy (hence spare - irreversible), cut the button stalk from the shaft, remove the shifter facia plate to give clearance for the shifter boot.
Step 4. Install a manual shifter boot on the centre console (it will have provisions to screw in - approx $30 from mits)
Step 5. Reinstall console, install grub-screw type shifter knob.

End result (This car is 4sp straight-shift auto - Until monday, we are manual converting it):

I quite like the idea in Life's comment. Only thing I'd do differently is retain the shifters "ratchet" and make it do the shifter knob was the button. As in you push down on the knob to go from park to drive.
