Hi guys
Yesterday our house was broken into and they used my th wagon to load up our stuff as my keys were inside and car was locked in garage.. good news car has been recovered but i now have no keys.
My Question is what do i need to get another key made or is it just a barrel change?
unsure if new key can be matched to bcm or if i need to replace that
also if anyone knows an approx cost as car was not being driven and no full comp insurance
cheers and thanks in advance

can't get it done under house insurance?
Ring a local mitsubishi dealer, they may be able to cut a key from your VIN number, $99+coding fee rings a bell.

I think he wants a NEW key all together, as in a new cut. Otherwise the thief could come back at any time and drive the car away.
It's not as easy as you'd like it to be. Probably have to replace the BEM, key barrel, possibly even ecu? Might be easier to get them out of another wrecked magna. You will need door handles and boot lock while you're at it.
Most locksmiths can supply this service as well (if you can prove ownership) and supply a key for about $125 (I had one made in Toowoomba). This will be identical to the old one so you don't need to change all the locks.
If someone else out there has my keys and knows where I live, I'd change the locks ASAP.
So M4DDOG's idea sounds the best to me.
Did the cops check for prints and all that sort of stuff? I hope they can find more than just your car.
A Mitsubishi dealer can supply new keys to fit from your vin #.
I think that they can then give your car and new keys a new code so that old keys cannot be used to start your car.

quite a list of missing things... my kids had 2 50 cc quad bikes they got for xmas...laptop,watches, my wallet, ipod, ipad, internet sticks the list goes on.. i wont know how much damage they have done to it until tuesday as its at the police station getting fingerprints done.. good chance as i kept the thing spotless. it was reported doing burnouts on an oval so next concern is damage to motor trans etc.. but to find that out need to get started first....so need a key...may just get key made first as all locks have been changed to check for damage and if ok get replacements from a wreck... dont know yet may just sell the car and get another yet dont like the idea of my car being thrashed thanks for the info guys
That is a real bummer - and just before Xmas. Don't let it get you down. Good Luck.

Order a new key from mitsu with your vin number, they will be able to get it made, then take out 3rd party fire and theft insurance for about $200 per year. Will be cheaper than replacing all the lock barrels, ignition, and bem etc

I don't blame you for wanting to get rid of it. It's one of those things you'll think about every time you hop into the car, and if it's affected you or your family badly is not a good thing. Sorry to hear mate.

When a new key is programmed into the car, any old keys not present will no longer start the car
Also, you can do a full key/bem and lock change if you need to, I have these sets from wagons on the shelf, they are $250.00 for a full set up with 1 key
sux when this happens dude,
honestly selling the car and buying another just because of this will only cost you money in the long wrong and im guessing you have lost enough this time around to lose more??

Mitsi's was really helpfull $84.70 for a new key and 27.50 to recode so old key does not work $55 for the tech to go to police station to save towing to dealer all up $167.20 guaranteed to spend that on the tow trip home so worked out well
Just have to wait for key now as cut at factory so wont be here until tomorrow

Sorry to hear mate. its more of the fact it was reported doing burnouts and going accross an oval.. my concern is if they have buggered the trans or done any damage to engine.. even though its only got 148,000 and water pump and cam belt just been done. Im sure they werent concerned about redline or going from neutral to drive to get the wheels going as it has 235/40/18 tyres

Yes it is a shame. I understand your point. Perhaps given they were hooning on grass, perhaps less stress on the trans maybe, and less burnt rubber given grass is slippery. I guess it dont matter, you feel violated and sometimes a fresh start is what the doctor ordered.
Also when my wife lost the keys, cost $250 as well for a new one and recoded. Subsequently found the original 6 months later, but its dead and dont do anything, so if I get around to it, I can get that one recoded again too, but for now its a spare.

Well got the car started today finally and no noises or tapping sounded fine... trans shifted well.. so now the hunt on spare parts begins.. they have bent front bumper and rad support so bonnet does not close properly... Are the rad support in a th bolted or welded in?? also will a verada bumper just bolt straight up as may as well make it look nice if replacing the front end. cheers all
