In short, you can use any shell from TE to TW for the mechanicals.......Obviously TE to TJ for body panels and kit parts

Score! How much did that set you back?
Just remember that transplanting/transfering parts form a TJ Ralliart to TE/F/H/J is not just about motor, interior and bodykit - there are some suspension, brakes and steering differences between a Ralliart and other "regular" models, escpecially any non Sports, VR-X and [some] Veradas. These changes/differences can be easily overlooked.
Any non sport-oriented models (like the ones mentioned above) does not have a rear anti-roll bar, as well as different rated springs and dampers (so to get maximum handling benefits requires a complete suspension switch). Front suspension also differs with both springs, dampers and roll bar size, and brakes on a Ralliart is a no-brainer - larger front and rear rotors with better [twin piston] calipers. The Ralliart also boasts a faster steering rack.
Also remember due certain regulations, you cannot install/replace an engine with one that is newer than the car it came out of. Eg: If you have a June 2002-build Magna/Ralliart, you cannot put the motor in a July 2002-build Magna. I came across this when I was halping a mate to shoehorn a Holden 5L from a '97 VS Series ute into a '00 VS Series 3 Ute. He got knocked back when it went to get re-registered. (I cannot confirm what states other than NSW that these regulations apply to. Check your state transport athority or an AMC member from your state for clarification. There are some "State" oriented threads on the forum which you can ask there).
Personally, Id find a TJ as new doner car to work on. Even though TE/F/H models are cheaper than a TJ, the difference isnt that much, and I be happier knowing that there is less chassis and bodywork fatigue being a younger car.

in nsw you can fit a newer model engine into a older car you are just required to have it engineered,
when the old ta22 celica with 2TG crapped out a couple years back i end up just taking it over to a lcoal place and basicly told him to get it fixed asap whatever it took ( you should really never say this to a mechanic)
i rocked up 2 weeks later and grinned at the 4age bolted up onto T50 box........basicly it was damn near impossible to find a decent 2TG engine so he fitted the 4age he already had sitting there another customer ordered and didnt want
last time i checked the 4age is a hell of a lot newer than the 2TG is.....just abit :P
regardless with ralliart engine, he would just be swapping his 3.5 for another 3.5 he purchased.....its not like his throwing a 15litre supercharged "fullisikcuz" ricer engine into it ( find the sarcasm)

In a Magna, even in NSW you can pop a 3.5 into a TE if you want with not engineers cert, remember my wagon came from NSW with the 3.5 in a 1997 body and had a green slip ready for registration. The main holding point would be putting the 97 engine into a 00 model because there in the case of the crapadore there were differences with the emmission controls and ignition systems.
I have done so many of these sorts of changes in cars that now live all over aust with no issues.
Remember also my 1997 TE Wagon has now got all of the running gear from a 2005 TW VRX, well what is left of it as it has many other parts in it as well lol

@ 95ts - Yeah thats what meant, newer engine in an older car is fine - just the other way around is a no-no lol. I hate Toyotas - but their old Carby 4-cyl motors back in the day rock!!
@ Mad - Haha havent looked at many pics on here yet - hit the limit for DL's for the month already lol. But if you had the tools and the parts, why wouldnt you go all out?! How long did it take?
But I looked into the differences as far as emissions between the 97 and 00 and was told it was the same. The engine was actually 12 months old before it was installed in the 00 Ute (a new emission law never started to 99, hence the change from the 5L to Gen3, so Holden built a whole heap of 5L before it came into affect). But we had it changed over in a day - gotta love when you have the tools.
LOL apoligies to all. Hijacking a thread is one thing - hijacking a thread by talking about bombadores is just baaaad!! Sorry lol....

Thanks for all your replies and help!
CPU MITCH I picked it up for $950 bargain, so from what you said just a standard tj (around same year) should be okay?
and I was planning on doing a complete transfer of as much as I can so hopefully it should all go well
I will keep you all posted on how I go and if I need anymore advice
Thanks again!

A Ralliart for how much?!?!?!?! Bulls***!!!!
If you picked it up for that much, which I am still in disbelief you did lol (ok not disbelief, just jealous!!), fork out the extra on a good, clean condition TJ that is older than the Ralliart. Ive got a '00 TJ Advance, and picked it up at a car auction (and it was only a viewing day, not an auction day) 4 year ago for $4500 - clean, 128k, all the options, never been crashed. Ultimate bang-for-your-buck. And that was 4 years ago....

Also, a base-model TJ series 1 would be a cheaper way to go too. Extras that were only options on series 1 were now standard on series 2. Eg: 4-Sp auto with manual-selector gate was now standard, as well as ABS and passenger airbag. The 3.5 in TJ2 had a bit more powerrrrrr too.

It's a wrecked ralliart, and after spending half the day at the auctions here that price sounds about right. TE-TJ's going for $450 at most today.

Jesus, I didnt think a wreck Ralliart would go for that cheap even if it was wrecked. Sad seeing a wrecked one though.

yeah the bloke I got it off is getting paid out by the idiot that hit it so he just needed to get rid of it and I was in the right place at the right time.
so is it defiantly worth going to the extra mile to bringing it back to life?? or do another project with the engine or something?

Once a car is classified a statutory write off it cannot be re-registered. Definatley worth bringing back to life - just in another chassis.

the manual ralliart 338 i got from damaged car auction earlier this year was only about $1200.
I was going to do a full swap into another tj but decided it would not be worth it so just parted it out.
I still have the TJ I was going to use for the swap if your interested. its a silver august 2001 tj exec
auto - asking $2280 with rwc and 4 months rego or $2k no reg/rwc . Brisbane
