Looking at adjustable coilovers guys and i know their isn't much more in terms of options to K sport.

What exactly is the reason other coilovers won't fit? Is it the way they mount to the car or what?
Can i buy a different coilover and just change these parts over?

Really i want a coilover that can have its height and tension adjusted just by jacking the car up, Does anybody know what's involved in making this happen??

Thanks alot guys.

well there is height adjustable from the base or the seat. Base adjsutable means you dont alter spring preload to lower the car, which is considered better. I have seat adjustable k=sports and they are a Piece of pee to change height on. Honestly though how often will you do it? Half an hour and ive got the car at what ever height i want. Ultimately you need to find coilovers that have the correct side hub mount, hole spacing isnt an adsolute deal breaker as they can be drilled out slightly if need be. As far as strut tops go you need to find an overall shock/spring height that suits and has a rod with the right thread and diameter to fot your stock struts tops on at least. Finding coilovers that are pre built for a magna with camber tops is unlikely. but a mis-match of parts is possible. My mx83r cressida runs s13 front struts and LCAs with supra hubs and brakes. Coilovers for s13 are almost free these days, it just so happens that rod threads are the same and allowed the use of cressy strit tops. My mk3 swift has no off the shelf coilovers available but an s15 coilover fits the stock strut tower if you tap the holes in the strut tower out from 10 to 12 mm. The hub mount is much to large but a welder and a drill press sorts that out. Overall length is only 50mm lower then stock gti suspension so its not much of an improvement in looks but is in how it drives. Are you willing to experiment? A 3rd gen wont be hard to adopt gto suspension and everyone makes those

I would just like to be able to adjust height by simply jacking the car up a bit and tightening or lossening it up, really wouldn't want to be removing seats everytime.

well seat adjustable is the easiest. YOu just undo the seat to screw it further down the strut. This requires 2 C-spanners to do. they come with the struts normally. Hub lowering requires the removal of the stufs that holds the hub captive to the shock, which can then drop your cv out of joint and in general is a PITA in comparison BUT is technically better

am i right in saying you can't adjust k sports on the car?

Airbags!

I'd love coilovers too (but may never end up with them anyway) - but for my knowledge in case I ever did have the available cash and justification...
Coilovers obviously give ride height settings and great ride handling etc. but air bags give the instant ride height option - but what's the ride feeling/comfort/handling characteristics of air bags?

Correct, the only thing you can adjuct with ease is the stiffness of the coilover
To adjust height you need to undo the lower bolts and spin the lower part until it's at the height your after

according to one of the 3rd gen diamante guys in the usa the coilovers to suit the 99-03 galant with front McPherson suspension bolt into daimante with the only mod being drilling an extra mount hole on the rear. This puts Ksport coilovers at $1190 delivered for the basic model - kontrol - and $1490 for the top model - gtpro. This also make other brands available including d2, kido, megan. Anyone had experience with this? if nobody has tried, i will order a set of kido coilover and see if they fit

Hayden there s one tho h you're not accounting for in your search for easily adjustable coil overs. When adjusting our height a alignment is required anyway as it throws out camber and will stuff your Tyres quickly.

that won't be a problem i won't be going too low i dontt think

It's more to do with how much you adjust instead of how low you go. Mcpherson struts are designs to camber in with drop. So if you get your alignment with 70mm ground clearance and then raise it to 100mm you will end up with positive camber unless you align again.

turns out kido racing in Taiwan actually make a coilover to suit McPherson strut diamante/magna. price is $1040US delivered and there is a range of spring rates but they recommend 8/6 for street and 12/8 for track. I have ordered a set and will review them once arrived and fitted. The guy actually rang me from Taiwan and asked me what i was planning to do, and how i had my car set up

update - i made a mistake with the price. they are US$1005 delivered which was A$1040 on the day i paid for them

i received the coilovers today. I will take photo's and install them tomorrow. as i mentioned above the standard rates are 12gk/8kg for track and 8kg/6kg for street but I asked for 8kg/8kg as i thought this would suit street driving with occasional track/drag work. The guy from Taiwan rang me and talked me into going 10kg/8kg. hope i don't regret it getting the heavier front spring rate but he said i can order different springs anytime. they took 2 weeks to arrive which is not bad over xmas/new years.

well here are some pictures of the kido racing coilovers. these coilovers suit Australian magna and us diamante with McPherson strut suspension.
The spring rates are marked on each spring which is useful. I was expecting 10kg/8kg but looks like i have received 10kg/7kg. They weigh around 21kg so I will weigh my boge turbo shocks and king springs when i swap them over so i know how much lighter these are-

They look great, so it looks like you can adjust height by simply screwing them up or down while they are still on the car???
But the stiffness is not adjustable?

TJTime

There is Damper Control, but the spring rate is fixed. Do your research before you comment Hayden...

I have fitted the kido racing coil-overs. They are easy to fit, just had to adjust them a 1 or 2 times each to get the height i wanted.
The only issues i see is the front coil-overs do not have mounts for the brake line or the abs cable so i just bent up a little bracket and used one of the lower strut mounting bolts to hold it on(zip ties would also be fine) . Also the rear damper adjustment tool is too short. Once the trims are back together it would be difficult to adjust rear damper. It needs a longer tool that can be stuck through the rear parcel tray into the shock.

with any height adjustable coilovers you really need to adjust them on the car as each corner of the car the car has a different weight. You need to adjust drop it on the wheel, measure, and repeat till you have all the heights correct. with a tape measure you should only have to adjust each coilover 1 or 2 times. My car was between 68.5cm to 70 cm at each corner from road to wheel arch with the 3cm lower king springs. I have set the coilovers to 65.5cm on the left front. 66cm on the right front (its slightly higher to take into account the weight of the driver) and 67cm on the rears. The reason I set the rears higher is the rear tyres have a 1cm higher profile(and i will be changing the same profiles as the front soon)

Have you sussed out the weight difference yet?

Have you sussed out the weight difference yet?

King springs and boge turbo shocks 30kg (fronts 9kg, rear 6kg) Kido Racing Coilovers aprox 21.5 to 22kg so 8 to 8.5 kg difference.

hey mate. You should direct your questions to the manufacturer / seller as i don't want to give incorrect advice. There is an aus distributor and they do say that they can rebuild them. Looks like they are mostly promoting them on the wrx/evo/skyline forums. I bought mine from ebay direct from Taiwan. just go on ebay - search " mitsubishi kido racing " there is only 1 seller - click on any of his listings and send the seller a message, and tell him what car you want them for and he will look after you. my user name on ebay is also vvrr44 so if you mention that he will know the exact set you need

So pretty sure i'm going to order a set of these coilovers, They look to be adjustable by only jacking up the car, have damper settings and also camber settings, seem to be a winning set.
