I'm just trying to guage an idea of car insurance should I go the way of a 380 come April next year. If anyone could give me the following info so I can see the variations in car insurance between providers that would be good.

If you could do it like this that would be awesome to

example:
CAR: 2007 380 VRX
Insurer: Allianz
Your age: 38
Premiums: (How much you pay per year, or month depending on your payment method)
Excess:
Years driving:
Rating:

At the moment, I've been driving 3 years, and my premiums haven't actually dropped. I'm not sure why either :\

And your insurance has gone up since then :)

Considering it's a year since then and there's more Insurance agencies on the market it's stll fairly valid to ask even if there's a thread.

Edit: Having a look at that thread, it's only 3 pages long. Maybe a mod could move this to a general forum and see what we get? I'm interested if anyone has insurance with Allianz and mods listed, my missus just started work with them and can get me a 20% discount on top of my rating 3 discount of 45%.

What a silly thread. One persons insurance can be completely different to anothers just from minor differences like location and history rather than different vendor. Just call up and ask for a quote

True, but I'm looking for a general idea. I'm also wanting to see what the preferred vendor for Insurance is for those who've modified their cars. Something like a 380 VRX and a sports exhaust with no other mods would not be insured by Allianz. Where as if the 380 VRX had not been modded, they would allow it. Subaru WRX/STI, Nissan Skylines etc are on an exclusions list at Allianz and they will not insure them purely for the people who drive them.

Dave, YOU may see the thread as silly, but I have my own reasons for getting the information I'm after. If I wanted to know the number of AMC members who had pink fluffy dice hanging from their rear view mirror and if it was covered by insurance, I'm sure I'd have asked. So unless you've got something useful to ad to the thread instead of trolling, find something else to amuse yourself with.

As if its a trolling comment. Kif pays $150 a month, yours might be $60 with his insurer or it might be $250. I fail to see how its helpful when trying to find out who the best insurer is. Unless kif lives on your street, has an identical car and driving record, i fail to see the importance.

You're right Dave, mine might be different. But I'd say that's due to me not owning a 380, I'm getting a general idea of what costs are for insuring a 380 should I get one. I'm not looking for a precise number, but if people's premiums go up for those in my rough age bracket I can see if it would fit in my budget, and also those who've modified and which insurer they've gone for. If 20 people respond and 10 are with AAMI, then there's a good place for me to start.

Can we get back on topic or do I need to bring out the Aardvark?

Do as you wish, I think your time is more productive actually getting some quotes online or over the phone.

My cars insured on my brothers farm on the out skirts of Sydney where the rate would probably be less then mittagong due to there being nothing more exciting happening there other then the occasional horse show lol. My quote for $379 was for Liverpool which is only a half hour drive away when I was living there.

my original quote was.$1800 a year and 1700 excess being 18 and already writing off 1 car. mum rang and said she would also be a driver of the car on occasion and they dropped it to $1000 a year. winning

oh and car is insured for about 12000 currently.

CAR: 2005 380 LX

Premiums: $680

I had my Ralliart Magna and my TL Magna insured with AAMI also. I've always found them to be the cheapest and also provide the best coverage for me. You need to read the included options when choosing an insurance company. Some will automatically do things like choice of repairer and agreed value, while others won't, and they won't advertise that they won't either, so be careful.

I've only had to make one claim in my life and that was with my Ralliart Magna, and it wasn't my fault. Some dolt reversed a truck into my rear drivers side door. One phone call to AAMI was all I had to make. They did the rest. Really good to deal with.

Our ASX is insured with Allianz, but only because we bought it brand new we were able to get the dealer insurance policy which adds a bunch of extras at no cost to us as a kick back to the Mitsubishi dealer.

Yeah, I'll make phone calls to insurance agencies for prices on a car I don't own yet and modifications it doesn't have either *rolls eyes*. Are you getting my point yet Dave? Or do I need to spell it out for you? Or are you going to say I'm on crack again?

It seems most people have gone with AAMI, giving good rates for those with modifications etc. Allianz will take anything with a stock car that hasn't been touched, if you've modified it you'll be refused insurance. They will throw you a lot of extras to get and keep you as a customer, I know that Allianz won't make any money off you in the first year, usually about $5. After that is when they do start making money.

I'm currently insured with Budget Direct as it was the cheapest I could get at the time and with my salary I was on. But I may move eventually. Just depends on what fits the budget again, but I've seen and heard some dodgy stuff about them like after you've made a claim, they'll send you a letter saying they can no longer keep you insured as a customer and you'll have to go elsewhre.

I had a friend with Budget Direct who recently had to make a claim with them. Similar thing happened. They were very hard to deal with and now want nothing to do with him as a customer and have jacked his premium right up. He's a 38 year old male BTW, with no other accidents.

Cheap is cheap for a reason.

I should also qualify that my 380 has a stereo added to it. When I rang up AAMI to add my stereo, I basically said I added a stereo and want to put it on my insurance. The lady on the other end went into a 3 minute spiel about how her son has some hotted up car and he's modified this n' that etc. She just said they would cover the stereo for 1/3rd of what the car is insured for. I said good, she sent me out a new policy in the mail, and that was that. I did a similar thing with NRMA years ago after the stereo install in my Ralliart Magna, and NRMA turned around and said that because my stereo was worth too much ($5k at the time) that they would cancel my insurance. I explained I would take a lesser value to keep my cover and they refused. Been with AAMI ever since.

Have you done anything in terms of "performance" modifications, as they'd put it at an insurance agency that's been covered by AAMI? Essentially, if I go down the path of a 380, I don't think I'd do much more than intakes, exhaust, rims, window tint. Nothing major, but if there were at least half a dozen companies that covered that I'll look at them. It's unfortunate that Allianz won't cover it with the missus able to get me a 20% discount on top of my rating. Could save me some good money at the end of it.

No. No performance mods at all.

Hey mate,

I'm 19 and wanted to insure the car under my own name, which of course was going to be expensive, so i did a good bit of shopping around.

First of all, all the big insurance companies have proper online quotes; you put in all of your details (this includes additional drivers and their age/rating) and it gives you a dollar figure and a quote number at the end. additionally, you can adjust things like car value/excess - i put both my car value right up to 20k and my excess to $800 or so to greatly reduce my premium, as i would only really make a claim if i rode my car off at this tender age/insurance bracket
so, try online quotes for an EXACT idea of what you'll be paying

Another good thing to try, is to ring iSelect. they get kickbacks from all the smaller companies, such as budget, and get you good deals. however most of these companies won't cover anything modified

i ended up going with NRMA, because i got a few little discounts from my parents being members, and they covered any vehicle as long as its roadworthy
