I dont know how much this will help but...

My car is doing the exact same thing, would sit at about 1000 revs and constantly rev up to about 1500, only did it once in a while then it got more and more frequent til it did it all the time, then i took it to a mechanic and he said the ECU had an error code in it that the O2 sensor was faulty, but he cleared the code and the engine has been ok since (it still does it on the VERY rare occasion). The only diff is mine didn't do it in drive unless i was doing EXACTLY 80 km/h, and then it was only doing it between 1500 and 1800 revs. If i was you, get your ECU checked for any error codes and if it says O2 then clear it and if it comes back then think about replacing it, if my car starts doing it alot more frequently i'm gonna take it back and see if the O2 sensor should be replaced. I also thought it might have been the idle stepper motor at first, so i'd check that also before replacing the O2 sensor, because if yours is doing it in D as well then it might be a different problem.

cant the trouble codes just be cleared by taking the - battery terminal off overnight, im a little bit to scared to do that cause knowing my luck the car probably wont start ever again cause ill f*** something up my o2 sensor does look very burnt though i dont know if that would be a prob and it only does the jumping up and down thing when its at idle its done it 3 times now in 3 weeks

my car idles bad at the start when it turns over, or if ur stopped in drive, for about 30secs till it figures itself out, when i got some other stuff done at the mechanics they thought it was the idle speed controller, put a new one and it still did it, and now they reckon its a faulty ecu. once its up and going there are no problems at all, smooth, and if u stick it in neutral at lights instead of drive it is fine too. ne ideas? i figured while we are on the topic of the bad idle.

In my car (manual) i have a smilar problem. The car idles very slightly rough, but it is high, i mean it idles from around 950 - 1050 up and down and it isnt regular, if the revs do drop to around 800 like they should be, the car will shake alot and the revs will pop back up to around 1000.

Also i have the same thing where when the engine will get ontop of torque (around 2200 rpm) it just wont go any higher, it was especially evident a few weeks ago when i towed a ~300 kilo trailer, if i went up a hill itd do great in first but in second it would hit about 2000 and not want to go any harder. On the highway i could get it up to about 90, and it would really really struggle to go any faster, i hit 100 only once or twice.I found this interesting as the car is supposed to be able to tow 1200 kilos. Without the trailer the cars fine (well id like better acceleration in 5th).

Im gonna check the computer for codes one day, i have the analouge multimeter to try it out, and the gregories says to do something like rev it up to 2000 for a while and see if the 02 sensors code is still there, im assuming it is so that the oxygen sensor can warm up, they only operate warm, thats why newer cars have self-warming ones.

Im sure mines crap tho, because i had mine unplugged for a while and i dont think it made much difference, and anyhoo the gf's stepdad seems to have crushed it a bit (prolly with a pipe wrench) and because of the sole reason hes a dick. "Hate these computer cars now, when they break down there's no way to find out whats wrong, you just gotta buy another one" thats what he would say.

Maybe the richest out of us all should replace our O2 sensor and if it works for him, we'll all do it :P lol!

my car isnt a magna (yet) a cheraide (however you spell it) anyhow, my rev's just jupms even when i am driving.. eg. 1000rpms, then it just jumps to 2000rpms for a split second then goes back down to 1000rpms.

charade :P

The cars which are hunting, i take it they are all efi... CHECK the coolant! its air pockets passing sensors and changing there temp and therefor the idle is adjusted. ive seen this 1000000 times.

if it isn't that then gawd knows what it is.

h45e what type of chazza? 3 or 4 cyl. im getting 4 if its idling high then low..

Thats what i've heard, try it and then see if it still does it. OR try disconnecting the O2 sensor.

Do these engines have an Idle Control Solinoid which controls the idle speed (ie, throttle body air bypass!) ?

yes the EFI models have an idle control motor.
