Has anyone with adjustable shocks experimented with the damper settings? And does anyone know what setting the Ralliarts Konis are set on from the factory? I think there are three settings, soft, medium and hard and they are probably set on medium but I haven't taken them out to look yet.

I didn't think the Ralliart ones were adjustable? I remember reading the previews and that KONI made dampers custom valved for them, but they couldn't be adjusted.

I have mine set on 1.5 turns clockwise, I believe 3.5turns is the maximum adjustment. In about a year's time I will probably bump it up to 2.5 turns. Don't forget though that the adjustment is for REBOUND only, compression damping is not adjustable on either the KONI Reds, nor Yellows.

I'll have to check when I get home but I'm pretty sure they're adjustable.

The Whiteline site has some good info on suspension setup and it says that many race cars are set up with "soft" damping and heavy sway bars.

Presumably harder damping could cause the car to become unsettled on rougher surfaces as the rebound wouldn't have fully extended before the next bump was hit. On the other hand having them set hard would resist lateral, fore and aft pitching during acceleration, braking and cornering. I guess this would be good on smooth roads only though. It may also resist the tendency cars have to lift at the nose and drop at the rear when accelerating hard which may give better traction (especially on a front drive car).

Yes the ideal setup is to go for the softest spring/damper combination for a given surface, combined with the thickest swaybars you can fit under there without snapping off the ends of the struts :P This allows the wheels to stay in contact with the road for the maximum percentage of time but still controlling body roll.

Also, increasing springrate purely to control sway or lift/dive is a big no no, you should be looking at either swaybars or castor kits to control them respectively.

What I've heard and read about castor is that you can't have enough, but are there any negative effects?

Too much castor means less directional stability; it will make the steering effort lighter though.

Yes and No, respectively.

Do koni make coil overs .... crikey, no offence, but you must have been living under a rock :)

Not sure if you can get em to fit a magna out of the box ... but given the configuration is common and used in a number of vehicles ... I would imagine one could be made to fit with enuf effort.

Reallyart, Did yu get the chance to check out the Dampers to see if they were adjustable?
