So i've had this picking at my brain for a while and i've noticed that the expected range my tank will last goes down faster then the actual fuel gauge on my dash...
Really what i want to know is how does the "computer" see that the fuel will get me so far. Especially if i use a more "Advanced" fuel E.g. Premium Versus Regular.
Please ask questions as well so i can explain my idea a little better.

in your car using a premium fuel wont affect your economy. pretty confident would be something simple like it calculates how much it thinks is in the tank, and multiplies it by a historical fuel economy figure. and leaves a small safety margin.

I'm fairly sure it is set to assume that a full tank will give you 690km. As you drive, you consume fuel. If, for e.g., you are a lead-foot, you'll end up with an almost empty tank, maybe the dash above empty, and the computer will still say 200km of fuel left. I lost faith when it was litterally on the E side of the last dash, and it said 100km. I pulled into the closest servo and filled up.
ED: As i re-read the first post, it would appear we have the opposite problem. Is the computer set correctly (wagon/sedan, 3.0/3.5)? The 3.0 and 3.5 apparently consume very different amounts of fuel, and sedans and wagons have different size tanks (69 vs 71 or something trivial)
Reset the system? Disconnect neg battery terminal.
