Hi All

Had a gut full of the usual poor build quality of both Falcons and crunchydores and purchased a first registered Aug 2007 380 SX series 2 with 77k on the clock. Great car and leaves the others for dead in fit and finish.

My question is the extended warranty as per the warranty hand book. One of the reasons i purchased this car was for the great warranty or what i thought was 5years 130k with the extra 12 months thrown at them at the closure announcement.

My warranty book and services are all up to date combination of Mitsu dealer services and Repco Service Centres however the previous owner it appears did not get the book signed off when that initial 3yr period ran out.Looking at the books the owner had a service done just weeks prior to receiving the invitation to inspection for the extra 2 years warranty at a repco service centre.

The car needs a rear R/H window reg and not sure now if this car still comes under the 5 yr 130 warranty or has it stopped at the 3 years because last owner did not get the intention section in the book signed off.

Any help most appreciated

Steve

Mate, regardless of where it was serviced, the window reg should still be covered under the factory 5year/130,000k warranty. I don't believe the booked had to be signed off as all 380's that got the extended warranty as it would/should have been noted on their data base when they punch in the VIN number it will tell them how much warranty is left ect....

I actually went to Mitsu and requested a history print out of all remaining warranty, warranty start date delivery km's ect and they were more then happy to print me off that info.

EDIT: Found the print out I got from Mitsu, they will have the same for your car on their system, making it easier for you to keep a record of when your warranty actually expires and not when they tell you.

Thanks Kif. Just had a bad feeling because the past owner failed to respond to the 3 year letter that the last 2 years might well be null and void.

Other than the reg and drivers door mirror ( just the mirror not the frame ) a bit loose and not responding to the switch to adjust in or out its a bloody lot a good car for the money.

Have a great Chrissy.

Your welcome mate, as for the mirror not responding just check that it's actually connected, pull this cover off and if you pull the cable a little up towards you (see pic) it will pull right out with the connector attatched if its come loose, you'll need to take off the door trim and re connect it if that's all that's wrong.

i suggest you go to the Mitsu dealer that has worked on the car and ask them if they will stamp the extended warranty.

Thanks for all the help unfortunately for me the selling dealer is the best part of a 1700 klm round trip.

Car is booked in with a dealer close to me for the 4th of Jan. Wifey booked the car in and told them about the reg and that the mirror will work up/down but not left/right.

The other half said it sounded like they were trying to wriggle out of it when the service department said they would have to assess if they were still warrant able items even after giving them the vehicles details.

Once i realised about the book needing stamping for that extra 2 years i thought for that reason they might decline it as warrant able.

I won't be complaining as it is a lesson learnt i guess, be extra thorough when doing all the checks.

Still love the car though, drives a lot better than my company ride a FG G6.

Once again many thanks.

Good to hear about your opinion of the build quality.

My car, 2006 S2 VRX, has now reached 172, 000km.

Oil is light burnt caramel after 10K.

No transmission issues at all.

No rattles even though the car was rear ended mid 2011.

Driver's side window reg replaced in 2010. Interior (leather trim) is perfect.

Nothing other than normal maintenance for a mildly warmed (chipped and sports exhaust) car. I'm planning on keeping it for another 3 years.

Just looking at the delivery date of your vehicle Kif i take it with the extra year they put on the 380 at the time they announced the closure your car has full warranty til the 23rd of May 2012.
Is this correct ?.

Real happy Knotched and absolute chalk and cheese compared to the FG. No dash rattles and consistency in gaps between body panels its just streets ahead and i can only think not enough buyers were bothered to put there bums in them when considering a new car eh ?. Christ if the BF was a better car in its time up against a 380 i will dead set give it away.

Its just a stock SX but the Mrs is already hassling me to sort out some tint and a rear wing, any tips on a good place to source a wing without getting fleeced ?.

Cheers

Steve

With the standard warranty it expired on the 23rd of May this year or 130 thousand, which ever comes first. I went right over my car with a fine toothcomb and got EVERYTHING replaced, from door seals that looked dodgy, steering wheel buttons had a slight rattle in one of them, I requested that both got replaced to save them having to pull the wheel apart again I when complained on my next visit, chrome surrounding the gear selecter, was bubbling a little. Both head lights, at first it was for the moisture getting in, then the light film on the out side of the lense started flanking away from the gurney at the local carwash, I showed the service manager, he went into the detailing bay, came out with a rag and thinners (IDIOT) trying to get the rest of the film off which just made it cloudy as ****, then looks at me and says I think we owe you one new light, the moisture is not an issue as it dries out. Went back into the office started complaining infront of customers saying one light would look newer then the other and now you ****ed my head light I want both replaced. They agreed! Emmission control valve replaced(loud tick) drivers door regulator new "380 GT" badges on the rear as the chrome started flaking away. I could go on with much more as it comes to mind but this is your thread lol

For a spoiler, there's the series III VRX spolier which uses your existing SX tail lights and sits on your boot, but with the 380 boot being so short from the rear screen to the boot break light I think the boot spoiler looks too big IMO. There is a lip spoiler available which uses your existing tail lights also which is similar to that of the series I, through to series III GT and series I and series II in the VRX variants, it just doesn't go into the tail lights, see first pic

Personally I'd change the rear tail lights to the GT ones and get the matching lip spoiler which looks like it's incorporated into the tail lights them selves.

Just remember, with any of the spoilers, unless you get a new boot with the holes already drilled in, you'll have to drill the one you have. Measure twice drill once lol

Just remember you need a fitting kit for the wing spoiler as it needs bracing on the underside of the boot.
Usually some on you know where but I think there were a couple of s/h spoilers for sale on here. Interesting comments about the FG. I thought all the squeaks and rattles and poor panel fit was improved

I have fitted the lip wing to my SX, I removed the locating lugs from the wing to save a few holes, have used the 4 6mm studs that are on the wing, changed the plastic plug for the boot light and plugged straight into the exising loom, have left the original light in the boot to fill the hole

No leaks at all, lines up nicely and no rattles

I also ahve the series 3 VRX wing here, decided not to fit it to the car so will sell that one off, that is the one you can leave your std red tail lights with

Hey Kif

You didnt say whether you still get an extra 12 months warranty on top of the normal 5yr factory one. I'm also interested to know since I have a 2005 GT first registered in 06. Car was driven for a year by a Mitsu exec then sold in 2007 with 5yr factory warranty. I acquired the car in Nov 2011 with balance of 5yr warranty expiring Oct 2012. If I were to get an extra 12mths I would be wrapped. I really feel since this car was initially driven by a Mitsu employee for only a year it should of been sold with the standard 10yr warranty with 5years transferring over to me as 2nd owner.

Hi mate! With mine, looking at the delivery slip I acquired I don't think I got it myself to be honest, but it never bothered me as I got everything i needed fixed while it still had the "standard" warranty. I do recall the service guys making a joke about how much I claim and that they "cannot wait till your warranty expires" was the words they used, I just smiled and said that "id like to remind that EVERYTHING you've replaced has a 12 month parts warranty so I'll probably see you again soon". Needless to say he didn't have much to say to me afterwards.

Happy new year everybody.

Just an update for those interested, i dropped the car off this morning for them to check the items such as the window reg and drivers door mirror and no problems parts ordered and they will give me a buzz when the mirror is back from the paint shop and ready to fit.

I guess that sort of answers my question regarding my service book not being stamped to ensure the last 2 years of the 5 year warranty was still in effect.

I will for those interested ask the service department when i collect car about that additional 1yr warranty they put on the 380 when they announced the closure and see how that works and what the conditions were ie original owner only or whatever and report back via this thread.

I was just about to add comment on the 6th year warranty extension. Yes, only to cars bought new. And you should have recieved a letter from Mitsubishi confirming this. Mine's a 2006 model with full warranty until this June.
PS Warranty is VERY good. Just after I bought this, a coworker bought a new Honda Civic which they said is much better than Mitsubishi. They didn't get alloy wheels (plastic wheel covers), no alarm, no reverse sensors, can't remember what else, and only 3 year warranty. I got to rub their nose in it with my double-their's warranty.
