View Full Version : Closing air vents?

Might sound really stupid, but how/can you close the air vents in a 380? I want to close the one on the drivers side. In our ASX you put the vent to the down position, then flick it off to the right. Not so the case with the 380.

You can't. This was one of the criticisms of the 380 in the reviews. It was either a cost cutting measure or was what they had to work with from the US Galant.

I just divert the vents away. Not ideal but the only option. It might be worth seeing if the Galant had vents that could be closed. They would probably fit right in?

Do you have an air recirculation switch on the dash? (Can't remember the 380 dash layout, it's been a while since I drove one). On the Lancer, if you set this to recirc, it cuts off any airflow from the outside.

Found a pic.
It's the one lit up. Set the one on the left to windscreen too.

Yeah ,you can do that, but then you have NO airflow ,and thats not what he wants....

Set the one on the left to windscreen too..WTF..there is no setting from side to side...

Appreciate the comments. The air is always on recirculate, and if you set the direction of the air to the windscreen, you end up getting a cold forehead and that's about it. Moving the air vents away from you doesn't work either because you get rebound air from the window hit you in the face - point it down and it will invariably gush over your arms which is not what you want either. Seems to be a frustration that I am not alone in.

Moving the right hand temperature knob up above 20 will allow you to turn off the AC and the recirculate button

actually its above 18.5 but this is off topic

The OP stated that his air recirculate is always on and he has no choice but to get a cold gush where ever his vents are facing. Being able to turn the AC off would fix his issue.

There's always the old bush mechanic trick (for keeping dust out). Pull the vent out, shove a sock down there, replace vent.

(lol Just a thought)

Set the middle dial to OFF and the left dial to put the air down at your feet. Nothing will hit your face and arms with it in this position.

So if I put the air vents to blow air at my feet it won't hit my face? I never thought of that.

I asked a simple question which was answered in the first post. Everything after that is condescending spam.

Bloody hell Madmax. I never noticed before how much you interfere with threads that you clearly have zero knowledge on.

Bloody hell Discipline. A bit harsh! It's a common event here in case you haven't noticed. Your job to sort the value stuff from the chaff. Your question has been answered - you can't turn them off like you can in the ASX.

Well, my post was actually in response to you moaning about the windshield air hitting your head and the air from the other vents hitting your arms.
But by all means, feel free to continue to attack those who were genuinely trying to assist with your problem, even after your first four words in the thread.

I agree. All the posts have been people trying to be helpful, no need to use the "condescending spam" comment.

Actually, I can see where he is coming from. He has a nice new ASX, and looks at his older design 380, and says "why won't the 380 do that?"
Can be very frustrating, I know as I compare my 1994 TS to my 2001 TJ - on engine power, gearbox, noisy suspension, fuel consumption, controls, etc. Just the different design age really.

Now I am justified in my comments. Well done you two.
