Hey Guys,

JB Hi Fi have their famous 30% off all car audio sale, and you can get some crazy good deals.
I've got a fair bit of left over gear from my magna which i can utilise.

From the Magna:
4x130wrms jaycar response amp
4x130wrms Soundstream picasso amp
100wrms 6x9" soundstream speakers

From the magna (not using):
100wrms 6" soundstream speakers (For the 380 I reckon splits will be the way to go)
2x12" MTX thunder 6000's (These are getting close to 10 years old now! They still work well but I've heard newer subs go louder).

What I'm thinking:
subs:
1 or 2 of these http://www.jbhifi.com.au/car-sound-gps-navigation/sub-woofers/cadence/600-watt-sub-amp-combo-sku-52575/ (this would replace the need for the jaycar amp)
The local store has much better range of subs, like the JL 7 series (which should be about 400 bucks, only problem is its dual voice coil and running a 4 ch amp to dual voice coil might be tricky).

Splits:
Tossing up between these 2, I've heard the kickers in store and they sound magical.

http://www.jbhifi.com.au/car-sound-gps-navigation/speakers/kicker/6-inch-speakers-sku-54060/

The Plan:
My soundstream has high level inputs (I believe I'll need converters for the jaycar to RCA), so what I'll do is run the standard headunits outputs into the soundstream as inputs, then output from that into the fronts and 6x9's. I'll split the rear 6x9 signal into the jaycar for the sub/s from the headunit.

Cigarette accessory power will be tapped into for remote amp turn on.

I've opted not to upgrade the headunit at this stage as I like the integration with steering wheel controls and CMU.

What are your thoughts on the above? Reckon it should work well? Recommendations on sub/s around the 4-500 mark?

Cheers!
Leigh

The other important questions:
How hard is it to install the splits and 6x9 into the 380? Are there tutorial on this here?
How are the splits powered by the standard system? Do they use crossovers or come out as 4 sep wires, this could prove tricky if 4 separate wires.
Would the new splits sound much better running off the stock headunit than the old splits, or will i not notice any difference unless i amp them?
Where do people route their power cable through to in the firewall?
What's the easiest way to get to the ciggy lighter cables?

I'm sure i'll have plenty of other questions soon lol.

The other important questions:
How hard is it to install the splits Like any other speaker really...door ones are a funny size so you will have to make up a custom holder/bracket to mount the new speaker...dash cover's lift off after removing surrounding trim,ie..fuse box cover, lower facsia where you bluetooth/tcl/fog lights are

and 6x9 into the 380? Rears are easy as any speaker

Are there tutorial on this here? Dont think so

How are the splits powered by the standard system? from the HU

Do they use crossovers or come out as 4 sep wires, this could prove tricky if 4 separate wires. Pretty sure there is a crossover some where

Would the new splits sound much better running off the stock headunit than the old splits, or will i not notice any difference unless i amp them?
Havent gotten that far with mine yet, but,to my best knowledge, you are not going to get the best from any upgraded speaker unless you amp them as the stock HU just doesn't put out enough power

Where do people route their power cable through to in the firewall?

Same as the Magna..remove sill plates and cover and find the big arse grommet ,thread your power cable through it ,i removed all the factory tape to allow me to push the cable through and used the factory grommet, remove under guard splash guards and follow the stock wiring till it comes out just near the fuse box

What's the easiest way to get to the ciggy lighter cables?

Remove the centre consol and then the section that the cig lighter is in unclips, may havr to remove theradio facsia as well,
just grab that from the bottom and gently pull towards you anfd make your way up the thing.
I'm sure i'll have plenty of other questions soon lol.

Which ever way you go ,its a BIG job ,with the requirement to pull half the car apart.

Thanks for that Maggie, sounds very similar to the Magna in what needs to be done. I may even just ask JB how much they'll charge to fit it all, I really CBF these days pulling shit apart lol.

I love this sub n box....
But the sub is two Ohms, which wont run off a bridged amp.... But the box size and specs are here...Linky (http://www.jlaudio.com/ho112rg-w3v3-car-audio-h-o-wedge-subwoofer-systems-93136)

You'll have to measure it up though...And AU List is close to 480-ish so its a good buy....

I would either take advantage of the 30% off, or wait a little bit ( risky ) but new audio gear comes out around Feb--Mar, so there will be some new stuff then and clearances on the old gear... Your call...

Heres the real Specs on the Cadence X1 Linky (http://www.cadencesound.com/products/X1.html)

Only 300 Watts RMS, which might not be enough (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92021)to satisfy you, but two of them however.....

My current subs are 250wrms, so probably not much of an upgrade.

I'm thinking I might keep my subs for now and then just upgrade later if need be.

Well got the car booked in for 9th. Bought a pair of the RS kicker splits for 320, good price imo. Will take pics and give feedback after the install.

Just a quick update, couldn't help myself, bought 2 of these for $130 to replace my old subs while i was in grabbing the kickers:

275wrms, look awesome and go alright for the price tag. I love sales :). They match up with my 4 channel nicely.

Should all sound pretty good once its in.
