I have a brand new (spare...lol ) Ralliart wheel in storage and was wondering what is the best way to "preserve " it and keep it in top condition.

I have noticed from a few other threads ,people taking their spare wheels out and conditioning them...

what do people use and how do you store your leather wheels ?

i would think in a dark cool place (back of the cupboard), as there wouldnt be any if not minimal moisture

I'd be surprised if the leather deteriorated in storage.. If your really paranoid give it a wipe with leather conditioner on exa year

I do not understand.....why have a lovely leather steering wheel and hide it away....surely it's value is in it's enjoyment in your hands, or am I missing something. This is similar to Merc and Jag owners who would put seat covers on the beautiful leather seats which they paid dearly for....may as well sit on a tea-towel covered seat.

Clean and condition it.
Store it cool, dry place in a breathable light proof container. Not in plastic bags, or not airtight.
To avoid mould, you could consider a dessicant (humidity moisture absorber), better still, store in a room where the aircon is regularly, especially on the humid days ( refridgerated, not evaporative )
Store it Wheel side up, as not to rest the wheel on the leather.
Air it from time to time. Mould and Inks/acids from paper are your worst enemy, along with pressure marks from any weight on it.

You could look for more tips on 'how to store leather' from any search engine.

The only other thing you could do is coat the center bore lightly with grease/vas/oil to avoided corrosion and glad wrap and tape the center only, to avoid contaminating the leather.

will look as good as new for many years....

My spare ralliart wheel is being stored on my son's car, I'm not expecting it back anytime soon if ever!

My other car is and XJ-S Jaguar so I'm used to leather preservation. Leather needs to be "fed" regularly - its a natural skin and so needs it's oils replaced to stop it drying out and cracking - but on the flip side if you leave it too moist it will go mouldy. Best products I have found are Leatherique - cleans and feeds all sorts of leather or Autoglym leather products (Leatherique is a bit hard to get hold of but is probably the best however I think Autobarn still sells Autoglym) if you use quite liberal amounts of leather "feed" or conditioner once a year and then store in a natural product such as paper, cotton or something that breaths a bit in a cool and dry place it will last for decades at least.

Leatherique is really good stuff. If you keep the wheel dry and covered it will last forever. You can get leatherique from a bloke in warriewood. www.ppcco.com.au.
