Hi guys,
Ive encountered a problem on my KE, dont think its too much of a issue. But for the past few days every time i start my engine, I hear 3 to 4 clicks when i turn the key to start the engine. The car dosent drive any differently...
The clicking stops as soon as the engine starts, should i be worried? what is the cause of this?
Anyone experienced this before?
Thanks

It may just be the starter motor clicking over. We have a chevy that makes the noise and its just a normal pre startup thing.

Sounds a lot like its the starter motor. Does it ever have any difficulty in starting up? When does the clicking stop?

If sound like the ticking of the clock, it TPS. Clicks damper. It's not terrible.
It is probably the starter solenoid clicking in and out. Is your battery good or is it nearly dead? A dead or near dead battery can cause the solenoid to flutter .

Hmm weird but the clicking noise has disappeared..
Have a look under the car and if there is a bomb there that could be what was causing the ticking if no bomb then that may be why thr ticking stoped :woot:

I've said it clicks throttle. This self-test of the machine.
Another possibility, although unlikely is the mass airflow meter. I unkonowingly left the ignition on in my Pajero and some time later (probably 30 minutes), I heard CLICK CLICK. Not knowing what it was, I checked and found the igniton was still ON. The airflow meter is a hot wire device and relies on airflow passing over it to cool it. The electrical resistance varies with temperature , but wiith no airflow, I imagine that it got hot, hence the clicking noise. It still works, so obviously it didn't do it any harm. This would only be when everything was still ie not trying to crank the engine.

Engine control relay.
Can make a audible click noise once or twice upon start up. It receives power from the battery and bypasses this power to the ECU.
Normally not heard as when starting up as other noises like the starter motor cranking drown out the sound.
Cant say its a fault unless you have other information that supports a failure of this relay perhaps.
Any electrical issues or addition of components that could be why your hearing this?
