Howdy

I have just purchased my first diamante, its a 2002 VRX and drives really well. Only issue I have with it is that it brakes like crap. I have been driving a 2008 Mondeo recently and that brakes like its on drugs so I am wondering if the Diamante (VRX) is known to have poor braking or if it is a case of me having become accustomed to something else.

To quantify bad I have to apply pressure when doing 50k's about 25 - 30m out and tend to have to apply pretty heavy pressure at the end to ensure I stop in time.

Thanks guys! and merry xmas from NZ.

Bleed the brake lines or get the brake setup checked out. That isn't normal.

Take it straight to a brake specialist

3 posts in a thread about brakes and we are yet to have someone spell it 'breaks', amazing!

But in all seriousness, that is not normal, and needs to be fixed ASAP.

Sounds like the booster is not working - to check apply pressure to brake pedal with engine off - start engine and pedal should drop another 20mm or so as booster increases pressure. If pedal does not move then you could assume it to be a bad vacuum booster.

Just did the test and it reacts as you said it should so I doubt its that.

I will bleed them tomorrow and see if that makes any difference. Is there a preset sequence to do it on these cars to keep the ABS happy ?

Thanks guys!

I'd get them checked. However I went from a FG Falcon XR6 50th anniversary, to a TH Exec, and the change in brakes (and accelerator pedal too) is noticable. But if you're having to stand on the brakes just to avoid rear-ending someone, it probably isn't normal.
