Hey all, I have a 03 TL Magna with standard springs+shocks.
It's too damn high for me so i would love to get it lowered :woot:
If your Magna is lowered, can you please post up pictures with details? I can't decide on whether to go for King Lows (30mm drop) OR King Superlows (50mm? Drop).
Any help would be very appreciated! I tried to do a search but couldn't really find anything, if you have any links to threads- I could have a look there too. Any other tips/hints on this topic would be great :D
Cheers!
Murry.

King Low SPs are a 30mm drop, King Lows are a 45mm drop, King Superlows are about 60mm and are for the front only.
45mm drop looks good without being over the top or impractical. Superlows are a bit too low and a bit too soft, and are definitely for looks rather than anything else.
Have a search through Member's Machines - many members have their cars lowered. I have King Lows and the link to my Member's Machine thread is in my signature...

Awesome! thanks so much for that, you guys rock :D
I rather like the King Lows 45mm actually, but can i put these springs on my standard suspension for now? I do plan on upgrading shocks later on, but they seem to be okay for now.

It's just as much labour to change springs as it is to change shocks. Plus you need a wheel alignment ($60-$110) each time. If you're paying someone to do it, I'd do it all at once, even if it means saving a little while longer.

I have had super lows in for a couple of weeks. 60mm drop all the way round. The front bottoms out on EVERYTHING! On the highway, anything above 110 it will bottom out on bumps and stuff.
I want too go lower. The handling is definitely better too a point (when it bottoms out on a pebble). Looks good though!

Yeah i don't want it too low that it'll keep bottoming out lol. Red Valdez you have a good point there, i might just go for the whole lot at once hey - probably around 4hours labour i'm guessing just to change the springs.
Do these shocks look a bit suss/dodgy? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mitsubishi-Magna-TE-TF-TH-TJ-Sedan-Shock-Absorbers-/380396608198?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5891679ac6
It says "GT" but looks like some random generic brand?
They look like Ultimas, not the best of quality. KYB or Boges if you want them to last.

Ok cool. Anyone have good/bad experiences with Ultima's though? there seem to be plenty on ebay

I'm not sure, but excluding the wheel alignment, I imagine it'd be less than 4 hours labour. Only way to know for sure is to hit up a few suspension shops for quotes.
I Googled the part number and came back with Ultimas too. Like Life said, KYB and Boge are two good mid-range options. There's new KYBs on eBay for $420 + delivery.

No worries, i'll suss out the KYB ones too then. Once i get it all installed, i'll post up a few pictures :D
It feels like i'm driving the titanic around at the moment with the standard items lol

It is faster to fit new shocks and springs at the same time, as you dont need to seperate the old ones, and I found out kings lows will wear out standard shocks very quickly.
Kings super low fronts are listed as show car only spring, and the shock will bash the bump stop with a resounding bang felt through the car. I felt this with the standard shock on Kings Lows too, the OEM shock just doesn't have the travel required.
There is some pics in My Ride link found in my sig at the bottom of this post. I've got kings lows and KYB's...
The dobinson springs are meant to a bit firmer than a king low, the kings are great if you ride alone, but 4 people in the car is a bit too much for them, bogues and dobinsons combo are the flavor of the month at the moment, should give you a low look, good clearance and you have a magna that is transformed in the handling department.
The combos suggested (kings and KYB's or dobinsons and Bogues) wont give you a slammmed look.

Alright cheers, yeah the standard shocks i wouldn't expect to last very long. Decided I'm going to do it all at once :)
Next step is to find some Jap wheels for the car, probably looking at 18x8 wheels 38-40 offset max from what i've read on the forums so far. Should fit nicely i hope!
SH00T your car looks awesome too by the way!

Both cars are 18's.....
They are also AWD, not a fair comparison for height ;) +150kg in weight over FWD counterparts.

no they are not...black one is AWD,the red one is FWD.
My bad, thought Bills was AWD! Radas cary some extra weight too, as do the L/W series. Heaviest of the lot is the KW Verada GTVi AWD.

Monroe shocks, comfort ride, if yr lowering get stiffer shocks, and if u go with super low springs it will tend to bottom out a lot, so look for the thickest u can find, I think Dobinsons are probably the best, Lovell's are definitely thinner
The TF in the pic is lowered with lovells and KYB shocks, looked good and handled really well, but if I didn't know the road i tende dto stay safe speeds

I have standard height Lovells front and rear with Koni Yellow adjustabl shocks on my AWD VRX and filled out the gurads with 19x8 ROH Flares from the TMR Supercharged 380. The rear lookks good but fronts are a bit high looking. However, the car is evenly high all around as factory intended.
Consequently the handlind is excellent and the ride is smooth on all surfaces even though I am running 245/35/19 tires.
I want to lower it but the front VRX bumper/spoiler scrapes already and they are expesive to replace so for the moment I leaving it as is.
Will have new pix to show soon.
