I have just brought a sony head unit with 54w x4 and am doing a basic install (no amps or subs), so keeping things nice and simple what RMS wattage should I be looking at for my speakers I know sony do some 6x9's (XSGTF6937) that are 60 watts which i have been looking at and am also looking at there 6.5" speakers for the door which are either 40 watt or 75 watts? which option of door speaker would be better. Not after anything mind blowing just better than stock is the goal

Also been looking at these combo deals
Kenwood 6x9 75watt(RMS) (KFC-M6932A) + 6.5" 35 watt(RMS) (KFC-E1652)
http://www.jonvy.co.nz/index.php?route=product/product&path=65&product_id=1845
or
Kenwood 6x9 2-50watt(RMS) (KFC-G6930) + 6.5" 2-30 watt(RMS) (KFC-G1620)

Thanks for your help

the headunit will do about 15watts per channel.

I wouldn't even worry about speakers power ratings.

go listen to some, and see what you like the sound of.

More importantly for you is the sensitivity of the speakers. The first kenwoods are 92dB which would be my pick, the second ones are only 90. The speakers with the higher sensitivity rating means the headunit wont have to work as hard to produce the sound you want

Agree 100% with AmmoJammo. 54 watts is your headunit's peak output - the nominal output is likely to be much closer to the 10-15 watt mark. Plus wattage does not dictate how 'good' a speaker is. Go have a listen and see what you think.
