I'm at war with the climate control, cuz a new one is like 40$ on eBay, so if i finally give up, its cheap to get a new one. But right now that little plastic that goes over the lcd on the climate control is near impossible to see thru, the only real reason I want to keep it is to put different colored bulbs in it and use it, the bulbs are burnt. I tried toothpaste and plastx on it and I think that may be the reason it's partly like that. It used to be bad before but now its just constant scratches all over, and you can only really see it at night.
And I plastx the clock cover, and I think I may have either rubbed off the anti-glare coating on it(if it had any?), or maybe just didn't do it right.
And my instrument cluster is just like swirled scratches (reminds me a lot of clear coat spiderwebbing) what can be done with them?
I have a thing of brasso, as I've heard thats also good on plastic, but I'm not gonna go ahead with it unless someone tells me its okay.

I don't know where you got the toothpaste idea from. That doesn't sound very good to me. There is an anti-glare coating in most climate control panels but depending how many owners your car has had, that could easily have been removed over the years. So it isn't necessarily your fault. In my experience, brasso isn't a good idea either. That is for cleaning brass and other metals (hence the name). I think it would save a lot oof headache to get a whole new climate control panel for $40. I hate it as well when you have to replace something that can be fixed but I think in this case, it is just going to be a headache to repair the damage that is already done.

As for the instrument cluster, that can be a shocking mess to remove. If you pull it out you may as well change the bulbs but i havent had a go at that just yet.

Toothpaste and brasso are both pretty fine abrasive paints, but ones designed for paint/plastic should be even finer again. You can actually feel the grit in toothpaste/metal polish usually. Maybe not in gel toothpaste, I don't know what that is.
Any abrasive will remove whatever remains of the anti-glare coating.
The manual probably says "only clean the interior with a soft, water dampened cloth" as some sprays/soaps/cleaners might melt away coatings as well.

Here's some methods you could try, may be worth a shot!

I used Mequires Scratch-X on a mates TL centre display message display thingy - it was cloudy, an had some scratches in it.

Came up really really well actually - didnt mark the plastic - pulled all the cloudyness out of it, and made it clear again.

I would use that at your own risk though - anything abrasive on plastics (clear or otherwise) are likely to scratch as they work.
How scratched it scratched? The pieces might be beyond repair and do require replacement...

OP, I don't reccomend toothpaste. It's a product designed for teeth, not cleaning plastic. It can fix scratches, but I don't reccomend it on something that can be scratched heavily.

I'm also considering getting a new one. My cluster looks okay with just the dial lights, but when the door open light etc lights come on, they become visible.

If you do get the worst scratches out, buy one of those iphone film screen cover things with the matte anti-glare finish, cut it to size, and fit that. Might work to replace the worn off anti-glare layer.

Try the stuff that is being sold to polish up scuffed plastic headlight lenses. It should work a treat.

This is the stuff: Meguiars Headlight & Clear Plastic Restoration Kit

The only thing that really is beyond repair is that climate control. It looks horrible. The clock I used Plastx and its not scratched anymore it just has a glare. And the instrument panel isn't that bad, I just make it seem like its the worst thing in the world :P. My friend last night was like "you can't always keep it perfect," which is so true. But he did also ask how I kept the inside so clean :P. As to that meguiars headlight stuff stroppy said, that's pretty much what this plastx stuff is, even shows a headlight on it.
@Timi nice idea!
I'ma replace the climate control, too much of a headache at this moment to just fix it.
I'd get mr.spl's climate control but its in Celsius and I believe it may be set up different (right hand drive vs left hand drive)
