Before I get criticized, yes I have searched the economy threads. Lots of good info.

My question pertains to the economy of my 2002 S2 VRX. I can very rarely get it under 9l/100km on highway cruising at 100-110. Usually get 9.0-9.3 l/100 km on the highway and 10.5-11.5 around town. Is this about right for a gently driven VRX?

From what Ive read the body kit while it looks nice is of questionable aerodynamic value and adds aero drag. So the vrx with body kit and wider tyres is less slippery than a stock Executive. Mine is also missing the plastic under tray beneath the engine so this would add drag to the underside of the car.

Any thoughts welcome.

I dont own a VRX, but I'd say that's about as good as you will get in standard trim. I have an exec' and while my highway economy is far better than yours, your town economy is pretty damn good, excellent even.

Check tyres; pressure and condition.
Check handbrake and brakes in general.
Clean MAF, TB and check air filter.
Check O2 (long shot)
Have injectors cleaned ultrasonically.
Replace spark plugs maybe.

Your fuel economy compares well to my TJ exec. Around town mine will go up to 13 - 15 L/100 km on short trips, but improves as the trips get longer. Your 100 KPH economy is the same as mine.
I don't think the engine tray makes any difference to aerodynamic drag, its really a splash guard to stop water from puddles you drive through from getting to the alternator, air con compressor etc, so its worth replacing. Nothing worse than an alternator full of muddy water. lol

That's about what I get. Normally average between 9.3-9.8l/100km in my stock TJ VR-X on highway and motorway driving.

Yeah mines an Auto, never leaves town, always stop and start and I average around 13.5l/100km's.

The last 4 days, I've been off work, still only driving in 60 zones, but with virtually no traffic and its now on 12.5l/100km's. Traffic is a putta!

Also, Services all done, platinum plugs x 6, tuned, good knick, only 102,000km's on it and always runs premium 98 fuel.

End of the day, Manuals use less juice than the auto variants.
More weight adds more fuel.
Finally city driving sux compared to highway driving or even 80km zones.
