View Full Version : Removing plenum and throttle body; which hoses to disconnect?

Going to be removing the plenum in a few days, with the throttle body still attached, so I can do the rear rocker cover gaskets, tube seals, and platinums. I believe I have most stuff identified, but can someone tell me what the two hoses connecting to the metal S-bends are, and if they should or shouldn't be removed?
I have some more shots from different angles, and plan to take shots during the process, so hope to compile a pictorial guide when I get around to it. Obviously mine's the "extreme" case, having both cruise and TCL attached, neither of which show much detail in the service manual as to hose attachments etc.

I took the plenum and TB off a wreck the other day, but half of the engine bay clutter was already removed, and it didn't have cruise or TCL, so was only semi-useful.

PS. Out of interest, does anyone know the actual associations with "A" "E" and "P", ie. what they stand for? Couldn't find it anywhere.

I found it easier to leave the TB in place its just four bolts when you undo the 2top ones a hose bracket is attached take off the hose off that.one hose to the airbox.but once you undo the TB you will see what needs to be removed mark them if you cant remember were they go.i hop this helps.i left the TB because of the water lines.

Just make sure you don't drop anything into the lower intake :ninja: I recently did the rocker gaskets, took all precautions and was quite paranoid about not dropping anything down there... somehow still happened.

The gasket change went really well though lol

How the hell do so many ppl drop things ffs. Cover with rag or cardboard ffs not rocket science. I have been doing these for years and have never managed to drop stuff

Hoses are easy, top 2 are different sizes, other 3 go red, green, yellow and rest will only reach one place

Leaving tb on is silly, makes rc gaskets a bigger pita

So basically just disconect every hose that gets in the way? None that shouldn't be touched due to needing recalibration afterwards or something?
If the throttle cable is by undoing the two 10mm bolts holding the bracket to the plenum, does that mean it's just a case of back on and she's right, or is there adjustment involved?
Just wanting to get all of my info ahead of time.

Mal, as soon as the plenum came off a shirt went over the intake. Only explanation was there was gravel/random shit in the shirt?

In lamens terms, yes. When it comes to putting the throttle cable and bracket back on, yes as many times as ive done it, its just a case of tighten and she's all sweet. However if you can begins revving very high from the get go somehow you've put the cable back on to the point it's keeping the Butterfly open, but I really doubt this will happen.

@Pantsman, use a clean-ish shirt ? But honestly just use cardboard its strong and you don't run the risk of having anything curl up in the rag that can fall in.

Another thing I'm not sure of, I know the EGR pipe (driver's side) is just unbolt and leave, but what's the deal with the EGR valve (TB end)? I can't quite see what's attached to it, whether it should be unbolted, etc., and can't figure it out from the service manual (15p29.pdf, pg 3).

Are you talking about the rubber hose that goes into the plenum??
If so then you should be able to grab some needle nose pliars to squeeze the two metal prongs together to slide the clip down the line so you can easily wiggle it off

Should be able to unbolt everything on the backside without any problems
It's what needs to be done when removing it anyways
Simple undo everything and put it all back in the same spot when reassembling

No, that's the brake booster vacuum. EGR valve looks a bit like a horn.
