Hey guys,

I've done a full amped 6.5s and 6x9s and I'm getting a lot of static from them when the engine is turned on. But there's no static when the engine is off.

I was told to ground my earth wire properly, so I sand papered one of the surfaces at the boot of the car and screwed it back in, think it's a bit better but still getting static...

Could somebody advise me to where you guys think the best place to ground my earth wire.

Cheers
Simon

How have you grounded the headunit? Via the harness or to the chassis? It should be to the chassis, the standard harness earth is not very good and has caused me static in the past. Otherwise check the headunit earth as well.

hey Leigh, the headunit is grounded to one of the screws that hold the centre console in. Do you think thats enought for the head unit to be grounded?

Also how long is the ground wire in the boot and what gauge wire are you using for the ground?

Yeah it should be, that's where I grounded mine without any issues. Best way to test it is take the centre console apart, so you have access to the screw. Start the engine and then wiggle the HU ground wire around, if you get no change, then it's not that.

The other thing to check is make sure at the back of the headunit and towards the amp there is nothing touching or near the RCA terminals.

Lots of things that can cause static :(.

Run the ground for the headunit straight to the battery, dont terminate is anywhere else and see how that goes. If its an issue of grounding that will eliminate it.

also where is the amp power wire running?? is it down the same side as your RCA cable? if so u will generate static and interference from the altinator...
