View Full Version : Verada GTV stock ride height? (King Lows query)

Hey guys,
Can anyone tell me if the ride height of the GTV is much lower than stock? Reason being, I was investigating getting it lowered as I don't like the current height, and was reading King Lows drop the height by 30mm. I went out and measured that and if I drop 3cm the edge of the wheel arch is fractionally above the top of the tire, which would look a lot more awesome than I've been seeing on other cars. So I'm wondering if the GTV is already at that sort of height or are King Lows just better in person than the pics I've been seeing on the board here? :P
Also, as far as I'm aware my GTV is stock suspension. This is unfortunately the only photo I have of it which is side on enough to show the height:

Have a look at the color of your springs. Black usually means stock, any other color is aftermarket.
From what I know the GTV uses the Magna Sports suspension which I believe is about 15mm lower, so a would assume "30mm drop springs" will only really get your car 15mm lower

Dem bizzles be black, yo.
Cheers for the advice. Yeah, I read a review when I was buying the car, apparently it has the "Sports/VRX suspension" standard. Dealer said the same. Just wish I had the ****in' optional sunroof, that's the one thing I don't like about this car. That and the rather submarinish turning circle, but I can look past that for the style and class factor over similar Commies and Falcons :D

The 'sports' suspension is 10-15mm lower than the base models.
There are two different heights of King Lows: King Low SP, which is a 30mm drop from base; and King Low, which is a 45mm drop from base.
King Lows (the 45mm drop) are a good pick for FWD models - your car won't look slammed, but it'll sit nicely, and it'll still ride reasonably and maintain practicability too.

King Lows and it'll sit quite nicely with the standard wheels.
I'm running Lows & KYB Shocks at the moment, while on 20's and she definitely needs to go lower.

Sweet, so if I go King Lows front and rear, which are 45mm drop from 'base', I'll get a 30mm drop on my GTV which is factory 15mm lower than 'base', because 45mm - 15mm = 30mm, right?
That would look sick on the standard 17's, my concern is just if that's low enough that it's gonna affect the ride substantially.

Anyone got any good pictures of a Verada (Or Magna) side on with King Lows on 17's? That'd be hugely useful. Also, what would the cost be installed for all four? Roughly, of course.

Approximately. My suspension guy measured a 40mm drop when I replaced my VR-X springs with King Lows.

If you bought a decent (ie KYB or Boge) set of shocks on at the same time, your ride shouldn't suffer much. Back on the factory 17s, I actually preferred how my car rode after it was lowered. I felt that you picked up more of the imperfections on the road because of the stiffer spring, but the better shocks meant that it was more comfortable over bigger bumps.

If you view my Member's Machine thread in my signature, you'll see some photos of my Magna on King Lows on 17s. It is a little misleading though as - at the time - I had the full VR-X bodykit including flares (which I took off when I put my 18s on).
It's a couple of hours labour, so roughly a couple of hundred bucks. You will also need a wheel alignment afterwards.

Excuse my noobiness but what's the price of the components? Say Boge shocks, 4x King Lows, a couple hours labour and wheel alignment, what's all that gonna add up to?

If you speak to the local Mitsi bloke - Mal for parts and your local mechanic..
Parts - Speak to Mal
Labour - $60 - 80 p/hr is what the average Joe charges nowadays.. but who knows
Wheel Alignment - $66 F&R

Car handy mate has offered to let me bring it round and we do the labour and install it and do a rough wheel alignment, would just need to pay for the parts and a proper wheel alignment asap afterwards. I reckon King Lows and Boges will be the go, unless there are other shocks which are cheaper/do the job. Will probably talk to Mits-Fix if the savings make up for the shipping cost.

If you want to save a few dollars, you could go KYBs, but the Boge ride that little bit better..
